Wushu is a sport that integrates internal and external exercises. It is based on the ancient Chinesephilosophical concepts about the unity of heaven and man. There are four aspects to such integration, name-ly: 1) Exercises are performed in pursuit of beauty in inner spirit as well as in outward appearance; 2)Training is carried out with emphasis on internal as well as external work; 3)The coordination of internaland external work constitutes a unique theory that is rooted in traditional Chinese culture and thoughts;and4)Following the goals set by Chinese sages and emperors, wushu seeks to cultivate good moral character andintellect for the benefit of society. In a word, wushu blends Oriental philosophy, bodybuilding and self-de-fence into an organic whole. By practising it regularly, foreigners will derive benefits from the impacts ofancient Chinese philosophy.
