Objective： To analyse prevalence trend of Japanese Encephalitis （JE） in 1997-2004 in Guizhou Province and supply scientific gist for the prevention and control strategy. Methods： Information which are from the epidemic situation surveillance administration system and JE Cases Questionnaire were analysed. Results： There are accumulative total 13664 JE cases and 540 dead cases. The annual average morbidity, mortality and death rate are 4.65/100, 000 and 0.12/100, 000 and 3.95%, respectively. Male to female ratio is 1.48：1. Children of decentralization resident population account for 67.54% （9 228/13 664） and students account for 23.69% （3 151/13 664）. Cases of children age〈10 account for 88.00% （12 024/13 664）; Season distribution is from June to October and high peak period is from July to August. Conclusion： The information shown that JE cases are mainly under the 10 years old children in Guizhou Province. The cases season are from June to October and high peak period last two months from July to August. There are so many cases with no-vaccine history and unknown history in 1997-2004. The high risk prefectures are Zunyi and Bijie. The preventive strategies are that the health education and propaganda mobilization should be conducted. All - around control countermeasure such as prevening and destroying mosquitoes and JE vaccine immunization should be carried on in order to decrease the morbidity and mortality in Guizhou Province.
