Objective To analyze the characteristics and trends of Japanese B encephalitis （JE） epidemic in Guangxi from 1990 to 2007. and provide the guide for the further work of JE prevention and control. Methods The data from the infectious disease surveillance and reporting system from 1990 to 2007 were collected. Results The total cases were 7839 from 1990 to 2007, of whom 600 people died, the average incidence rate and mortality rate were 0. 95/100, 000 and 0. 07/100, 000 respectively. The average fatality rate was 7.65%. From 1990 to 1998, the average incidence rate was 1.29/ 100, 000, after 1999, the incidence rate declining obviously, the average incidence rate was 0.62/ 100, 000 from 1999 to 2007. The JE cases were scattered distribution and sometimes there existed JE outbreak in local area. Conclusions Although the incidence rate of JE in Guangxi is in declining trend, but the incidence rate is changing largely and the threat of JE outbreak in local area still exists, so we need to strengthen the control measures.
