A new foil method to produce explosively formed projectile with star-shaped tail is brought forward and verified by numerical simulation. Some typical technology which can produce EFP with star-shaped tail are summarized and generalized, and the principle and characteristic of foil method is analyzed. The process of formation, aerodynamic coefficient and trajectory of EFP are calculated. The results show that foil method can produce EFP with star-shaped tail. The elemental principle is that foil can generate speed difference periodically in peripheral liner. The number of tail is consistent with the number of foil. The designed EFP have good aerodynamic stability and small speed drop.
