Objective To observe the effect of We Chat-based health education on osteoporosis（OP） patients. Methods A total of160 osteoporosis patients were randomly divided into control group and experimental group from May 2012 to May 2013, with 80 cases in each group. All patients received health education for six months under the guidance of specialist nurses and physicians but We Chat-based health education for experimental group and telephone health education for control group. Patients of two groups were evaluated with OP cognitive level before and after the health education. The compliance of two groups was evaluated after six months of health education. Results The score of OP cognition of experimental group and control group was 18.30 ±2.81 and 16.36±2.58 respectively six month later and they were improved（P〈0.01）. After six months of health education OP cognitive level of experimental group was significantly better than that of control group, which was statistical significant（ P〈0.01） and the compliance of experimental group was better than that of control group（P〈0.05）. Conclusion We Chat-based health education is effective for improving OP cognitive level and the compliance of the patients. Since We Chat has been widely used, We Chat-based health education can be promoted.
