To narrow the gap between urban and rural regional development and income distribution has become the key to accurately conquer the deep poverty fortress and win the battle against poverty as scheduled. Taking Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture in Gansu Province as an example, based on the data from 1998 to 2017, this paper makes an empirical study on the relationship between economic growth and urban-rural income gap in deep poverty areas by using co-integration test, Granger causality test and error correction model. The results show that there is a long-term equilibrium relationship between economic growth and urban-rural income gap. Economic growth is the Granger cause of the change of urban-rural income gap, while urban-rural income gap is not the Granger cause of the change of economic growth. Therefore, it is necessary to vigorously develop the rural economy, adhere to the integration of urban and rural areas, promote rural revitalization and new urbanization as a whole, vigorously promote poverty alleviation, and comprehensively improve production and living conditions in poverty-stricken areas, so as to narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas in deep poverty-stricken areas.
