The Determination of serum 5'-nucleotidase was made in 539 cases, 89 of which were found in association with the tumor of the liver 68 with primary HCC with AFP positive, 9 with primary HCC with AFP negative, 7 with secondary HCC and 5 with non-malignant tumor of the liver. The serum levels of 5'-nucleotidase activity were 41.6± 25.8 IU/L, 43.3±26.2 IU/L, 39.0±17.2 IU/L, ( P<0.001 )and 10,9±6.8 IU/L. (P>0.05), respectively. In contrast with ALP, the determination of serum 5'-nucleotidase activity is more sensitive in the diagnosis of HCC. We conclude that the detefmination of serum 5'-NT activity of patient with HCC is of significance to clinical diagnosis.
