Objective To explore the clinical effect using oblique T-shaped plate in the treatment of ankle fractures involving medial malleolous posterior colliculus and posterior malleolus injuries. Methods From January 2009 to December2013, 17 cases of ankle joint fracture with medial malleolous posterior colliculus and posterior malleolus injuries were treated using oblique T-shaped locking plates, 11 cases was operated within 6 hours post-traumaticly, 6 cases within 4days. The surgeries were performed through the posterior lateral malleolus approach combined with posterior medial malleolus approach. Results All 17 cases had been followed-up for an average of 14 months(range, 12 to 24 months). All incisions were healed normally. Bone union was apparent radiographically within an average of 7 weeks(range, 6 to10weeks) after surgery. The mean AO-FAS score improved to an average of 92.6 points after one year postoperatively.Conclusions It is effective to avoid the re-displacement of medial malleolus posterior colliculus in the treatment of the ankle fracture with posterior malleolus injuries using oblique T-shaped plate; It also permit early excises immediately after surgery due to rigid fixation and reduces the risk of traumatic arthritis.
