BACKGROUND Cardiac amyloidosis, a disease caused by the precipitation of amyloid proteins in the myocardial extracellular matrix has been historically difficult to diagnose due to lack of specific clinical manifestations and necessity of biopsy to demonstrate amyloid deposition. However, advances in cardiovascular imaging techniques have facilitated earlier recognition of this disease. In addition, while once thought of as incurable, treatment strategies are emerging for cardiac amyloidosis, making early diagnosis essential. CASE SUMMARY We outline the case of a 73 years old African American female who was admitted with sudden onset shortness of breath and found to be in cardiogenic shock. Cardiac amyloidosis was suspected due to discordance between electrocardiogram and echocardiogram findings and this was subsequently confirmed with the aid of scintigraphy and an endomyocardial biopsy. CONCLUSION Our objective is to highlight the diagnostic evaluation and clinical implications of cardiac amyloidosis. 展开更多

目的:不同距离观看3D影像后调节幅度、集合近点(NPC)及近隐斜视和视力疲劳的症状分析。方法:前瞻性研究,包括30例青年。每人每天三次分别在特定距离和不同距离观看3D影像,并连续三天进行观察,每一距离使用相同视频,相同的时间和不同的... 目的:不同距离观看3D影像后调节幅度、集合近点(NPC)及近隐斜视和视力疲劳的症状分析。方法:前瞻性研究,包括30例青年。每人每天三次分别在特定距离和不同距离观看3D影像,并连续三天进行观察,每一距离使用相同视频,相同的时间和不同的屏幕大小。使用K-multimldiv3D播放器。观看3D影响后立即记录立体视觉、调节幅度、调节近点及近隐斜视和视力疲劳症状等相关变量。分别使用TNO测量视功能,RAF尺测量调节幅度和集合近点,棱镜杆测量近隐斜视,封闭式问卷调查视力疲劳症状的发生情况。用描述性统计和配对t检验进行数据分析,定性数据采用卡方检测。结果:在40am,3m和6m处调节幅度分别减少了0.66D,1.12D和1.44D,集合近点显著降低了0.63am,0.93am和1.23am,近隐斜视分别增加了0.87,2.74和2.2棱镜度。结果发现,大多数受试者在每一距离处都出现眼周疼痛,头痛和刺激等反应。在家庭环境中,头痛、盗汗、疲劳、刺激和恶心等症状会显著增加,此外,通过使用笔记本电脑观看3D可能会引起头痛和盗汗等相关不适症状结论:观看3D前后、在三种不同距离处,调节幅度、集合近点及近隐斜视和视力疲劳的症状显著不同。在不同距离观看3D影像后,视力疲劳为主要症状。 展开更多

Objective:To screen the effect of sulphated galactopyran fraction isolated from Gracilaria opuntia (G. opuntia) (FM4) in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Methods:In vitro antioxidant assays of FM4 were estimated byDPPH,ABTS, hydroxyl free radical and Nitric oxide free radical activities.FM4 was purified and characterized by1H-NMR spectra andFTIR as sulphated galactopyran. Diabetes was induced intraperitonially by single dose ofSTZ (55 mg/kg body weight).FM4 was administrated orally (80, 100, 125 mg/kgBW) to diabetic rats for 60 days. The enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), lipid peroxidase (LPx), glutathione reduced (GSH), vitamin-C (VIT-C) and vitamin-E (VIT-E) levels were estimated. Glibenclamide was used as standard drug. Results:Our results demonstrated that the aqueous extract ofG. opuntia possess free radical scavenging activity. During FM4 fraction treatment (100 mg/kgBW), theSOD,GPx,CAT,GST, GSH,VIT-C and VIT-E levels were significantly (P < 0.05) increased, and theLPx levels were decreased in different organs such as liver, kidney, brain and pancreas of diabetic rats. Conclusions: The sulphated galactopyran fraction of the marine macroalgae (G. opuntia) possesses the antioxidant activity which might help in the prevention of oxidative damage that occurs during diabetes. 展开更多

Objective: To study the anti-diabetic activity of marine macroalgae extracts (n = 31), purification and characterization of sulphated galactopyran (SGP) from Gracilaria opuntia (FM4) in diabetic rats. Methods: The animals were separated into groups and STZ (55 mg/kg body weight) was used to induce diabetics. Glucose, HbA1c, insulin, C-peptide levels and in vivo antioxidant levels were estimated and histopathological studies were done in STZ-induced diabetic and marine macroalgae treated rats. Results: Based on glucose and HbA1c levels and in vivo antioxidant levels, among the 31 marine macroalgae extracts, FM4 has showed high anti-diabetic activity. Hence, FM4 was purified and characterized by 1H-NMR spectra and FT-IR as sulphated galactopyran. During the survival analysis, SGP at dose of 100 mg/kg showed significant (P < 0.05) survival rate and elevations in C-peptide and insulin levels. The histopathological modulations of SGP were observed in diabetic rat tissues such as liver, kidney and brain. Hence obtained results reveal that SGP treated diabetic rats has significant changes in C-peptide and insulin levels which regulates the blood glucose levels and recovered the histopathological changes. Conclusions: Marine macroalgae have significant anti-diabetic activity. Hence, they could be used as nutraceutical supplement or natural green remedy against diabetes mellitus. 展开更多

Results:The 66.7% residues in the core region of Ramachandran plot showing high accuracy of protein model and the QMEAN Z score of –6.57 indicates the overall model quality of amylin protein. Transliteration editors are essential for keying-in Indian language scripts into the computer using QWERTY keyboard.Applications of transliteration editors in the context of Universal Digital Library (UDL) include entry of meta-data and dictionaries for Indian languages. In this paper we propose a simple approach for building transliteration editors for Indian languages using Unicode and by taking advantage of its rendering engine. We demonstrate the usefulness of the Unicode based approach to build transliteration editors for Indian languages, and report its advantages needing little maintenance and few entries in the mapping table, and ease of adding new features such as adding letters, to the transliteration scheme. We demonstrate the transliteration editor for 9 Indian languages and also explain how this approach can be adapted for Arabic scripts. 展开更多

A series of novel naphthalimide-derived metronidazoles as new type of antimicrobial agents were for the first time designed, synthesized and characterized by NMR, IR and HRMS spectra. Experimental results revealed that most of them displayed moderate to good antibacterial activity towards Gram-positive and negative bacteria. Especially, compound 7b was able to not only exhibit effective inhibition towards the growth of P. vulgaris(MIC = 0.002 mmol/m L) and S. dysenteriae(MIC = 0.01 mmol/m L), but also have rapidly killing effect and prevent the development of bacterial resistance. Further research revealed that the highly active molecule 7b could not only intercalate into calf thymus DNA to form a steady supramolecular complex and thus might block DNA replication to exert the powerful bioactivities, but also be effectively transported by human serum albumin(HSA) via the formation of the 1:1supramolecular complex, in which hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic effect played important roles in the association of compound 7b with HSA. Molecular docking indicated that the supramolecular interactions between 7b and topoisomerase II were driven by hydrogen bonds. 展开更多

In the present study,morphology,size distribution,structure,biocompatibility and magnetic properties of potassium ferrite nanoparticles(KFeO2 NPs),synthesized by conventional sol—gel method have been reported.The formation of spherical nanoparticles with orthorhombic structure has been confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.The particle size,as obtained by transmission electron microscopy has been found to be in the range of 4—7 nm.Further,the size distribution has been scrutinized using Analyse-it software,where a platykurtic feature in the size distribution was observed.Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis showed the formation of metal(Fe,K) bonds at Neel temperature of 337℃.Vibrating sample magnetometer analysis revealed the superparamagnetic behaviour of the synthesized KFeO2NPs,with saturation magnetization of 25.72 emu/g.In vitro cytotoxicity test,using MTT assay,on T cell lines(Jurkat cells) showed that KFeO2 NPs are biocompatible at a particle concentration of 100 |j.g/ml. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate activity-guided isolation and identification of anti-Staphylococcus aures components from Senecio tenuifolius Burm.F.(S.tenuifolius).Methods:Hexane,chloroform,ethyl acetate,methanol and aqueous extracts of S.tenuifolius were prepared by soxilation for antimicrobial activity against one registered Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus)(ATCC No:25923)and two clinical isolates,methicillin resistant and methicillin sensitive S.aureus.NCCL standard methods were followed for antibacterial activity.GC-MS was performed to identify the chemical composition of bio active fraction.Results:Among all solvent extracts,methanol extract significantly reduced the growth of S.aureus(ATCC No:25923),methicillin resistant and methicillin sensitive S.aureus with the best zone of inhibition at 16.23,14.06 and 15.23mm and minimum inhibition concentration(MIC)values at 426.16,683.22 and 512.12μg/mL,respectively.In order to detect the active component in methanol extract,it was further purified by column chromatography,which yielded four fractions(St1,St2,St3,and St4).Among these four fractions,St3 was effective against the tested strains of S.aures,with the best zone of inhibition at 15.09,13.25 and 14.12 mm and with best MIC values at 88.16,128.11 and 116.12μg/mL,respectively.Effective fraction partially purified from S.tenuifolius(St3)yielded MIC’s that were at least 20 fold less when compared to crude extract.GC-MS analysis of St3 revealed the presence of 3-[methyl-6,7-dihydro benzofuran-4(5H)-one],1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid,hydroquinone,methyl ester and 3 unknown compounds.Conclusions:The study provides scientific evidence for traditional and folklore medicinal use of S.tenuifolius in skin infections treatment. 展开更多
