Effect of carbon black on the dynamic moduli of asphalt mixtures and its master curves

Modulus is one of the main parameters during the design of asphalt pavement structure, the newest specifications of China gives the dynamic moduli ranges of commonly used asphalt mixtures with base asphalt (BA) or styrene-butadiene-styrene modified asphalt (SBS MA), while the moduli ranges of mixtures with carbon black modified asphalt (CB MA) are not recommended. To investigate the CB effect on the dynamic moduli of CB MA mixtures, one commonly used asphalt mixture (AC-20) was designed with BA, SBS MA, and CB MA, respectively. Then, the uniaxial compression dynamic modulus tests were conducted at different temperatures and loading frequencies, the master curves of asphalt mixtures were analyzed based on the time-temperature equivalence principle. The results show that with increasing loading frequency, the temperature dependence of dynamic moduli of all asphalt mixtures tend to be less obvious. Both SBS and CB can decrease the temperature sensitivity of asphalt mixture, the SBS MA mixture has the lowest temperature sensitivity, followed by CB MA and BA mixture. In addition, CB and SBS can obviously improve the dynamic modulus of the BA mixture, enhance the anti-deformation performance of pavement structure, and the improvement effect of CB is almost the same with SBS. 展开更多

造粒飞灰沥青混凝土路面利用的地下水环境风险评估 预览

Asphalt concrete (AC)overlays placed over old asphalt pavement have become an alternative to repairing and reinforcing pavements.The strength contributed by the AC overlay is strongly influenced by the anisotropic properties of the pavement material.This study was conducted to analyze the influence of anisotropy,modulus gradient properties,and the condition of the AC overlay and old pavement contact plane on the mechanical behaviors of AC overlays,as well as to quantify the influence of the degree of anisotropy on the mechanical behaviors of AC overlay by a sensitivity analysis (SA).The mechanical behaviors of the AC overlay were numerically obtained using the three- dimensional finite element method with the aid of ABAQUS,a commercial program.Variations in the AC overlay's modulus as a function of temperature as well as the contact state between the AC overlay and AC layer were considered. The SA is based on standardized regression coefficients method.Comparing the mechanical behavior in terms of surface deflection,stress,and strain of the anisotropy model against those corresponding to the isotropic model under static loads show that the anisotropic properties had greater effects on the mechanical behavior of the AC overlay.In addition,the maximum shear stress in the AC overlay was the most significant output parameter affected by the degree of anisotropy. Therefore,future research concerning the reinforcement and repair of pavements should consider the anisotropic properties of the pavement materials. 展开更多

In most countries, there is a low temperature limit to lay down hot asphalt mixes because if it is too cold, it becomes impossible to get proper compaction. For cold recycled bituminous mixture(CRM), there is little information on the effect of the low temperature on their behavior. The goal of this study is to evaluate, in laboratory, the impact of the compaction and curing temperature on the behavior of CRM. To do so, CRM containing 50%reclaimed asphalt pavement(RAP) and 50% natural aggregates treated with foamed asphalt or bituminous emulsion were mixed and cured at different temperature between 0 and23℃ for up to 10 days before being tested in indirect tension. The results show that for all mixes, a cure at lower temperature means lower tensile strength, but the decrease is more noticeable for emulsion treated materials than for foamed treated mixes. The trend is not as obvious for Marshall stability results. A second cure at ambient temperature was also done, and the analysis of the results showed that the decrease in mechanical performance remains important even after a second cure at higher temperature for all mixes treated with bituminous emulsion, but there is some mechanical gain for mixes treated with foamed asphalt. 展开更多

The objective of this study was to verify the effect of fiber grid reinforcement on the longterm performance of asphalt overlay pavements by performing field investigation, laboratory test, and finite element analysis. Crack, rutting, roughness, and other miscellaneous distresses of fiber-grid-reinforced overlay sections and ordinary overlay sections were compared. Pavement conditions of fiber grid overlay sections before and after the overlay were also compared. Cores were obtained from the fiber-grid-reinforced and ordinary sections to measure bonding shear strength between the intermediate and overlay layers.Fracture energy, displacement after yield, and shear stiffness of the cores were also obtained by analyzing the test results. Finite element analysis was performed by using the test results to validate the effect of the fiber grid reinforcement on the long-term performance of asphalt overlay pavements. Rutting and fatigue cracking were predicted for three cases: 1) fiber grid was not used;2) glass fiber grid was used;and 3) carbon fiber grid was used. The cracking ratio of fiber-grid-reinforced sections was much smaller than that of ordinary sections. The results of field investigation, laboratory test, and finite element analysis showed that the fiber grid reinforcement improved the long-term performance of asphalt overlay pavements. 展开更多

Comparative study of ethanol foamed asphalt binders and mixtures prepared via manual injection and laboratory foaming device

The consistency of the ethanol foamed binders and mixtures prepared using asphalt binders foamed by the manual injection technique and laboratory foaming device were evaluated and compared in this study. The asphalt binders foamed using both methods was prepared at 120℃, 130℃ and 140℃. The performance of ethanol-foamed binders was evaluated in terms of rotational viscosity, expansion ratio, and low temperature cracking.Meanwhile, the performance of foamed WMA mixtures was tested using semi-circular bending(SCB), disk-shaped compact tension(DCT), and tensile strength ratio(TSR) tests. In order to conduct the TSR test, the samples were conditioned using the Moisture Induced Stress Tester(MIST) to simulate the pore pressure and scouring effects due to a tire passing over wet pavement. The foamed WMA mixtures were produced using pre-heated aggregates at 80℃ and 100℃ and foamed asphalt binders produced at 130℃. The nano-hydrated lime was used as the filler and anti-stripping agent. Overall, the properties of ethanol-foamed binders and WMA mixtures produced via both methods are significantly comparable, except the resistance to moisture damage test result. However, the findings indicate that the ethanol-foamed WMA mixtures prepared using both techniques are having good resistance to moisture damage, based on the TSR values more than 0.8. The foamed WMA mixtures also exhibited a better resistance to cracking, as indicated by a higher tensile strength compared to the control HMA. Additionally, the WMA specimen prepared at 100℃ was less susceptible to rutting than the samples produced at 80℃. 展开更多

The environmental and economic benefits of recycling asphalt pavements have received much attention in recent years. Because of the increase in the cost of raw materials and energy carriers, the reuse of large portions of reclaimed asphalt pavement(RAP) is critical in reducing both the cost and environmental footprint of asphalt pavements. High-RAP mixtures are more prone to low temperature cracking and poor mixture workability because of the higher stiffness of RAP binder. Recycling agents are one of the additives which are used to improve these deficiencies. However, there is some ambiguity about the optimum content of recycling agent to assure proper performance of recycled asphalt pavement during its service life. The current study used 60% and 100% fractionated RAP with waste cooking oil as a recycling agent and crumb rubber to alleviate the aforementioned problems. Laboratory evaluation showed that increasing the amount of recycling agent in the high-RAP mixtures improved their workability and low temperature performance while decreasing moisture damage and rutting resistance. The long-term susceptibility to aging of recycled binder with the organically-based recycling agent was also investigated. A procedure to obtain the optimum percentage of recycling agent was devised to strike a balance between the performance characteristics of mixtures with a high-RAP content. 展开更多

The modified asphalt has better high and low temperature performance. However, the segregation of the crumb rubber modifier (CRM) causes storage instability of the AR. At present, studies have been conducted that improving the solubility of the CRM or adding some macromolecular polymer can improve the storage stability of the AR. However, the structure and polarity of the CRM surface are rarely explored for its correlation with the storage stability of AR. In this paper, the surface structure and polarity of the CRMs was changed by four different reagents, and the properties of the ARs prepared by the CRM were measured to analyze the adhesion between the CRM and the asphalt. It is concluded that the CRM with rough porous and non-polar surface has higher storage stability due to the better interfacial adhesion, which provides a research direction for improving the storage stability of rubber asphalt. 展开更多

Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) was carried out to research the microstructure of the dusts;dynamic shear rheological(DSR) test and time sweep test were used to research the high temperature and fatigue performance of asphalt mortars containing steel-making dust. The experimental results indicate that, compared with ordinary mineral filler, steel-making dusts have more active ingredients, difference surface characteristics and micro-structure. Furthermore, the high temperature and fatigue performance of steel-making dusts corresponding asphalt mortars are superior to those of reference group. Therefore, the steel-making dust would be an alternative to the ordinary mineral filler to improve the performance of asphalt mortars and reduce the harm of the dusts to the environment at the same time. 展开更多

对石油沥青及SBS改性沥青在不同的烘样温度、冷却方式、冷却时间条件下进行60℃动力黏度试验,试验结果表明毛细管黏度计置入60℃恒温水槽保养瞬间,因SBS改性沥青温度的急剧下降,导致动力黏度重复性试验误差值加大。

以沥青为软碳原料(质量分数为10%、20%、30%、50%),通过高温热解法成功合成了不同软碳含量的碳/硅(C/Si)复合材料。实验结果表明,软碳材料的引入能有效抑制Si基材料的体积效应和提高其电子电导率,从而在极大的改善负极材料循环性能的同... 以沥青为软碳原料(质量分数为10%、20%、30%、50%),通过高温热解法成功合成了不同软碳含量的碳/硅(C/Si)复合材料。实验结果表明,软碳材料的引入能有效抑制Si基材料的体积效应和提高其电子电导率,从而在极大的改善负极材料循环性能的同时,还提高了其比容量。其次,通过系统研究不同C含量的C/Si复合材料性能,发现最佳的沥青加入量为20%。该条件所合成样品具有高达2356.7mA·h·g-1的首次充电比容量和86.6%的库伦效率。经过50次循环后依然有726.4mA·h·g-1的充电比容量,远高于工业化石墨负极材料,应用前景广阔。本研究还详细研究和讨论了软碳材料的形成机制以及不同软碳含量对材料形貌的影响。 展开更多
