Tidal Asymmetry Changes in a Shallow Mud Estuary by a Restoration Project 预览

The tidal asymmetry-induced siltation below tidal barriers is a worldwide problem that restricts regional socio-economic and environmental development.The hydrodynamic processes of the small mud estuary also feature a high uncertainty after estuary restoration measures.In this study,a hydrodynamic model based on the MIKE21 is used to quantify the responses of tidal asymmetry to a two-phase restoration project in Shuanglong Estuary,Bohai Bay,China.According to the numerical modeling results,the tidal flat removal in the upper estuary(first-phase restoration)induces the flood asymmetry switching to the ebb asymmetry in unrestored reach but enhances flood asymmetry in widening restored reach.Although the tidal asymmetry reverts to flood-dominated pattern after full restoration over the estuary,the imbalance between flood and ebb velocities is relieved.A possible net sediment transport pattern based on a comparison of dominant asymmetric current and actual sediment transport period shows net sediments in the upper estuary and inlet transport seaward and landward,respectively,in the first-phase restoration,whereas landward net sediment transport occurs in the whole estuary under the second-phase restoration scenario.Given these results,we assume that a switch from the flood-dominated estuary to ebb-dominated estuary can be caused by redesigning the cross-sectional profile.The quantitative comparison of Lagrangian residual currents also implies that a channel–shoal structure rather than a flat bathymetry can promote the mass transport.Therefore,reshaping the channel–tidal flat system in restoration projects can prevent the sedimentation of the estuary and improve the water environment. 展开更多

In order to overcome the high insulation effect of the medium, measurement current must be injected at a relative high frequency since most of the conduction is due to capacitive coupling. In this paper, an OBIT numerical model based on four-terminal method was established to study the tool responses during the measurements. The influences of tool parameters, such as the area and distance of current-injector electrodes, inject frequency, distance of button sensors, standoff and electrical properties of borehole fluid, the tool responses, were investigated and the tool optimization was discussed. 展开更多

Organic-inorganic interactions occurring in petroleum-related mud volcanoes can help predict the chemical processes that are responsible for methane emissions to the atmosphere.Seven samples of mud breccia directly ejected from one crater were collected in the Dushanzi mud volcano,along with one argillite sample of the original reddish host rocks distal from the crater,for comparison purposes.The mineral and chemical compositions as well as iron species of all samples were determined using XRD,XRF and M?ssbauer spectroscopy,respectively.The results indicate that a series of marked reactions occurred in the mud volcano systems,more specifically in the mud breccia when compared to the original rocks.Changes mainly included: (1) some conversion of clay minerals from smectite into chlorite and illite,and the precipitation of secondary carbonate minerals such as calcite and siderite;(2) silicon depletion and significant elemental enrichment of iron,manganese,magnesium,calcium and phosphorus;and (3) transformation of iron from ferric species in hematite and smectite into ferrous species in siderite,chlorite and illite.These geochemical reactions likely induced the color changes of the original reddish Neogene argillite to the gray or black mud breccia,as a result of reduction of elements and/or alteration of minerals associated with the oxidation of hydrocarbons.Our results also suggest that greenhouse gases emitted from the mud volcanoes are lowered through a series of methane oxidation reactions and carbon fixation (i.e.,through carbonate precipitation). 展开更多

Songke Well No.2,one of the main part of the scientific drilling project in Songliao Basin,which was drilled 7018 m and acquired the part of cores continuously from the Low Cretaceous to the Carboniferous and the Permian from the 2843 m deep,can be considered as the deepest continental drilling project in Asia.Aiming at the features of longer well sections,larger diameters and multiple spud-ins for coring of Songke Well No.2,this project broke through the "coring in small diameter and reaming in large diameter"spud-in drilling-completion procedures which are always used in large-diameter-well coring for continental scientific drilling projects in domestic and overseas and the drilling method of short-singlecylinder roundtrip footage.At the same time,"coring in the same diameter and completing drilling at one single diameter"was achieved at all φ311 mm and φ216 mm coring sections of more than one thousand meters long,high-efficient operation with "drilling long footage with drill tools combined in multicylinders"was achieved at deep coring section.Four world drilling records were created which include more than a thousand meters continuous coring at φ311 mm,and the footage per roundtrip footage at φ311 mm,φ216 mm and φ152 mm is all more than 30 m,all of these breakthroughs reduced at least 300 days for this project;moreover,considering the characteristics of formations that the geothermal gradient is high in the drilled sections and the inside-well temperature is over 240℃ after drilling completion,a formate-polymer water-based mud system was developed by compounding attapulgite and sodium bentonite and by adding independently developed high-temperature stabilizer,which can provide critical technical support for successful well completion at 7018 m in the super-high-temperature environment It is the first time that the water-based mud is operated at the working temperature higher than 240℃ in China;Besides,considering the high-quality requirement on cores imposed by the project,the method "mechanical cor 展开更多

The influence of pore structure difference on rock electrical characteristics of reservoir and oil reservoir was analyzed taking Triassic Chang 6 reservoir in Block Yanwumao in the middle of Ordos Basin as an example. The relationship between the pore structure difference and the low resistivity oil layer was revealed and demonstrated through core observation, lab experiments, geological research, well log interpretation and trial production etc. The results show that there were two kinds of oil layers in Chang 6 oil layer set, normal oil layer and low resistivity oil layer in the region, corresponding to two types of pore structures, pore type mono-medium and micro-fracture-pore type double-medium;the development of micro-fracture changed greatly the micro-pore structure of the reservoir, and the pore structure difference had an important influence on the rock electrical characteristics of the extra-low permeability sandstone reservoir and oil reservoir;the normal oil layers had obvious characteristics of pore-type mono-medium, and were concentrated in Chang 61, Chang 6232 and Chang 62;the low resistivity oil layers had obvious characteristics of micro-fracture-pore type double-medium, which were mainly distributed in Chang 612 and Chang 63. The mud filtrate penetrated deep into the oil layers along the micro-cracks, leading to sharp reduction of resistivity, and thus low resistivity of the oil layer;the low resistivity oil layers had better storage capacity and higher productivity than the normal oil layers. 展开更多

Traditional oil-based drilling muds(OBMs) have a relatively high solid content, which is detrimental to penetration rate increase and reservoir protection. Aimed at solving this problem, an organoclay-free OBM system was studied, the synthesis methods and functioning mechanism of key additives were introduced, and performance evaluation of the system was performed. The rheology modifier was prepared by reacting a dimer fatty acid with diethanolamine, the primary emulsifier was made by oxidation and addition reaction of fatty acids, the secondary emulsifier was made by amidation of a fatty acid, and finally the fluid loss additive of water-soluble acrylic resin was synthesized by introducing acrylic acid into styrene/butyl acrylate polymerization. The rheology modifier could enhance the attraction between droplets, particles in the emulsion via intermolecular hydrogen bonding and improve the shear stress by forming a three-dimensional network structure in the emulsion. Lab experimental results show that the organoclay-free OBM could tolerate temperatures up to 220 ?C and HTHP filtration is less than 5 m L. Compared with the traditional OBMs, the organoclay-free OBM has low plastic viscosity, high shear stress, high ratio of dynamic shear force to plastic viscosity and high permeability recovery, which are beneficial to penetration rate increase, hole cleaning and reservoir protection. 展开更多

Water-rich clay to sand suspensions show a shear rate dependent flow behavior and knowledge of the appropriate rheological model is relevant for sedimentological,industrial and hydraulic studies.We present experimental rheological measurements of water-rich (40 to 60 wt%) clay to silt (population A) and silt to sand (population B) suspensions mixed in different proportions.The data evidence a shear rate dependent shear thinning-shear thickening transition.At lower shear rates,the suspensions organize in chains of particles,whereas at higher shear rates,these chains disrupt so increasing the viscosity.The viscosity,consistency and yield stress decrease as the A+B fraction decreases as the content of B particles increases.This behavior reflects the competing effects of the lubrication and frictional processes as a function of particle size and water content.Transitional flows form by the incorporation of small amounts of the finer fraction while 'oceanic floods' form at the estuary of rivers and the submarine debris-flows increase their velocity by incorporating water.The critical Reynolds number of the studied suspensions is ~2000±100 suggesting that the grainsize plays a major role in the laminar to turbulent transition.Our results have implications for the modeling of sediment flows and the hazard related to floods. 展开更多

In this study, various lost circulation materials(LCMs) were used to control the lost circulation of two types of drilling fluids, bentonite mud and a new eco-friendly mud, named RIA-X, which has a remarkable effect on decreasing the amount of lost circulation in fractured and highly permeable reservoirs. The Bridging Material Test(BMT) apparatus was used to investigate the effectiveness of various LCMs in fractures of various sizes and to select the LCM and combination with the best performance. The use of three-dimensional fractures is one of the most notable points of this work, which makes the experimental conditions similar to those of real wells. The lost control performance of the new eco-friendly LCMs in RIA-X mud was tested in field. The outcomes show that the designed LCMs are able to control severe lost circulation that regular processes such as cementing or drilling with foam cannot deal with. 展开更多
