In an organic Rankine cycle(ORC)system,the working fluid pump plays an important role in the system performance.This paper focused on the operating characteristics of a multistage centrifugal pump at various speeds and condensation conditions.The experimental investigation was carried out to assess the influence of the performance of the pump by the ORC system with special attention to actual net power output,thermal efficiency as well as back work ratio(BWR).The results showed that an increase in the pump speed led to an increase in the mass flow rate and expand in the operating range of the outlet pressure.The mass flow rate decreased nonlinearly with the increase of the outlet pressure from 0.22 to 2.41 MPa;the electric power consumption changed between 151.54 and 2409.34 W and the mechanical efficiency of the pump changed from 7.90%to 61.88%when the pump speed varied from 1160 to 2900 r/min.Furthermore,at lower pump specific speed the ORC system achieved higher thermal efficiency,which suggested that an ultra-low specific speed pump was a promising candidate for an ORC system.The results also suggested that the effects of condensation conditions on the pump performance decreased with the pump speed increasing and BWR was relatively sensitive to the condensation conditions,especially at low pump speed. 展开更多

CFD method was employed to analyze the effect of the wall extension of hub and shroud at the impeller outlet(rotating diffuser)in a centrifugal compressor model stage with a large mass flow coefficient.The effect of clearance leakage was considered.Results show that the extended hub and shroud increases the head coefficient and ploytropic efficiency for the centrifugal compressor stage,and the extension length is longer,the head coefficient and ploytropic efficiency is higher.When extension length is under 4.44%impeller outlet diameter(R2),the increase rate of head coefficient and polytropic efficiency is rapid.When the extension length is beyond 4.44%R2,the rate is slowed down.The uniformity at the diffuser inlet is to be improved,the total pressure loss of stationary parts decreases,and then the performance of stage is improved.The total pressure loss of stationary parts starts to reduce with the increase of mass flow coefficient when the extension length exceeds 5.56%R2 and mass flow coefficientis beyond the design value of 0.1957. 展开更多

A novel vibration modeling method for a rotating blade with breathing cracks

This paper proposes a vibration modeling method for a rotating blade with breathing cracks, considering the coupling of the centrifugal effects, the breathing effects and the crack effects. Firstly, considering the combined effects of the centrifugal stress and the bending stress, a crack breathing model for the rotating blade is proposed. Since the crack surface cannot provide the spanwise centrifugal tensile stress, an additional bending moment will be generated at the crack surface in the rotating state.Therefore, an additional bending moment caused by the centrifugal stress is then constructed. In addition, due to the discontinuity of the crack cross section, the additional stiffness caused by the centrifugal effects of the cracked blade will be smaller than that of the normal blade. Therefore, a correction coefficient of the centrifugal stiffness is built. Furthermore, based on the Lagrange equation and the assumed modal method, the vibration equation of the rotating blade with a breathing crack is established(RBC model), and a strategy is constructed for solving this vibration equation. Finally, taking the finite element model(FEM) as a reference, the vibration responses of the RBC model, the open crack model(OC) and the bilinear crack model(BC) are compared. The necessity of the RBC model is illustrated, and the accuracy of the RBC model is verified. The RBC model is a computationally efficient alternative to the finite element analysis for the rotating cracked blade. It can provide an important tool for the vibration modeling and the vibration analysis of the rotating shaft-disk-blade system with cracked blades. 展开更多

The compressible effect of water is often neglected in the simulation of hydraulic machinery.However, based on experimental and numerical study,it is found that the compressibility of water could influence the magnitude of the pressure pulsation at some frequency in the pump.Therefore,in order to investigate the influence of water compressibility,compressible model is established by using Tait equation.The internal flow of centrifugal pump under different conditions is calculated by this model.The calculated results are compared with the incompressible results,and it is indicated that the compressibility of water has little effect on the performance parameters.But it affects the amplitude of pressure fluctuations at some discrete frequency,especially at the outlet of impeller and volute tongue where significant jet-wake and rotor/stator interaction appears respectively.Meanwhile,water compressibility makes greater influence on the flow pulsation under off-design condition.Therefore, it is necessary to consider the compressibility of working medium in the numerical simulation of unsteady flow in centrifugal pumps,especially in area with strong unsteady flow and at off-design condition. 展开更多

Power generators and chemical engineering compressors include heavy and large centrifugal impellers. To produce these impellers in high-speed machining, a 4 1/2-axis milling machine(or a 4-axis machine plus an indexing table) is often used in the industry, which is more rigid than a5-axis milling machine. Since impeller blades are designed with complex B-spline surfaces and impeller channels spaces vary significantly, it is more efficient to use multiple cutters as large as possible to cut a channel in sections and a blade surface in patches, instead of only using a small cutter to machine a whole blade and a channel. Unfortunately, no approach has been established to automatically calculate the largest diameters of cutters and their paths, which include the indexing table angles. To address this problem, an automated and optimization approach is proposed. Based on the structure of a 4?-axis machine, a geometric model for a cutter gouging/interfering the impeller is formulated, and an optimization model of the cutter diameter in terms of the indexing table angle is established at a cutter contact(CC) point on a blade surface. Then, the diameters of the tools,their orientations, and the indexing table angles are optimized, and each tool’s paths are generated for machining its corresponding impeller section. As a test, an impeller is efficiently machined with these tools section by section;thus, this approach is valid. Experimental and Computational Analysis of the Unstable Flow Structure in a Centrifugal Compressor with a Vaneless Diffuse 预览

The unstable flow phenomena in compressors, such as stall and surge, are closely related to the e ciency and the operating region. It is indispensable to capture the unstable flow structure in compressors and understand the mechanism of flow instability at low flow rates. Cooperated with the manufacturer, an industrial centrifugal compressor with a vaneless di user is tested by its performance test rig and our multi-phase dynamic measurement system. Many dynamic pressure transducers are circumferentially mounted on the casing surface at seven radial locations, spanning the impeller region and the di user inlet region. The pressure fields from the design condition to surge are measured in details. Based on the multi-phase dynamic signals, the original location of stall occurring can be determined. Meanwhile, the information of the unstable flow structure is obtained, such as the circumferential mode and the propagating speed of stall cells. To get more details of the vortex structure, an unsteady simulation of this tested compressor is carried out. The computational result is well matched with the experimental result and further illustrates how the unstable flow structure in the impeller region gradually a ects the stability of the total machine at low flow rates. The dynamic mode decomposition(DMD) method is applied to get the specific flow pattern corresponding to the stall frequency. Both experimental and computational analysis show that the flow structure at a particular radial location in the impeller region has a great impact on the stall and surge. Some di erences between the computational and experimental result are also discussed. Through these two main analytical methods, an insight into the unstable flow structure in an industrial compressor is gained. The result also plays a crucial role in the guidance of the compressor stabilization techniques. 展开更多

Cavitation has a significant e ect on the flow fields and structural behaviors of a centrifugal pump. In this study, the unsteady flow and structural behaviors of a centrifugal pump are investigated numerically under di erent cavitation conditions. A strong two-way coupling fluid-structure interaction simulation is applied to obtain interior views of the e ects of cavitating bubbles on the flow and structural dynamics of a pump. The renormalization-group k-ε turbulence model and the Zwart–Gerbe–Belamri cavitation model are solved for the fluid side, while a transient structural dynamic analysis is employed for the structure side. The di erent cavitation states are mapped in the head-net positive suction head(H-NPSH) curves and flow field features inside the impeller are fully revealed. Results indicate that cavitating bubbles grow and expand rapidly with decreasing NPSH. In addition, the pressure fluctuations, both in the impeller and volute, are quantitatively analyzed and associated with the cavitation states. It is shown that influence of the cavitation on the flow field is critical, specifically in the super-cavitation state. The e ect of cavitation on the unsteady radial force and blade loads is also discussed. The results indicate that the averaged radial force increased from 8.5 N to 54.4 N in the transition progress from an onset cavitation state to a super-cavitation state. Furthermore, the structural behaviors, including blade deformation, stress, and natural frequencies, corresponding to the cavitation states are discussed. A large volume of cavitating bubbles weakens the fluid forces on the blade and decreases the natural frequencies of the rotor system. This study could enhance the understanding of the e ects of cavitation on pump flow and structural behaviors. 展开更多

The annular volute is typically used in a slurry pump to reduce the collisions between solid particles and the volute tongue and to achieve a better resistance to blocking. However, only limited studies regarding annular volutes are available, and there is no systematic design method for annular volutes. In this study, the influence of volute casing cross-sectional flow area on the hydraulic loss, pressure pulsations, and radial force under varying working conditions in a centrifugal ceramic pump are discussed in detail. Experimental tests were conducted to validate the numerical results. The results indicated that, when the volute casing flow area increases, the hydraulic performance decreases marginally under the rated working conditions, but increases at the o-design points, specifically under large flow condition. However, the volute casing with a larger flow area has a wider high-e ciency region. In addition, the increase in the volute casing flow area will decrease the pressure pulsations in the volute, regardless of the working condition, and decrease the radial force on the shaft, therefore, providing an improved pump operational stability. It is anticipated that this study will be of benefit during the design of annular volutes. 展开更多

In order to reveal the regularity of unsteady flow of centrifugal pump under different cavitation stages,a visual closed test-bed is built to collect signals such as the distribution of cavitation bubbles at the impeller inlet and external characteristics,etc.in the process of cavitation of centrifugal pumps.Combined with the shape and distribution of bubbles captured by high-speed photography,the cavitation stage of the centrifugal pump is divided.In addition,the variation of vorticity distribution,pressure pulsation and radial force of centrifugal pump under different cavitation stages are studied using the standard κ-ε turbulence model and the Kunz cavitation model.Main contributions are as follows:The cavitation bubbles can absorb the energy of vortex core to a certain extent and increase the volume of vortex core.Cavitation bubbles can also block the flow-path and induce the distortion of the internal flow field,resulting in unstable pressure waves that cause a significant increase in pressure pulsation rate.Besides,with the development of cavitation,the radial force on the impeller tends to remain invariable first and then decrease,and trajectory of the radial force changes from closed to open. 展开更多

The mold filling process of titanium alloy in a thin-walled cylinder cavity under vertical centrifugal casting process was studied by means of the hydraulic simulation experiments. Results show that the filling mode of the melt in the cylinder cavity varies with casting wall-thickness. When the casting wall-thickness is less than or equal to the thickness of the first layer during the filling process, the melts fill the cavity from the bottom to the top.When the casting wall-thickness is greater than the thickness of the first layer during the filling process, the melts first fill the largest radius parts of the cavity with a certain thickness of the first layer from the bottom to the top of the cavity, and then they fill the cavity from the larger radius part to the smaller radius part. The melt filling ability increases with the increment of the mold rotational speed and the pouring temperature. In another aspect, the melt filling ability rises with the decrement of the melt viscosity, and the melt with the better filling ability is prone to fill the cylinder cavity layer by layer. 展开更多

Annular centrifugal contactors (ACCs) have many advantages and are recognized as key solvent-extraction equipment for the future reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel (RSNF). To successfully design and operate ACCs for RSNF, it is necessary to understand the hydrodynamic characteristics of the extraction systems in ACCs. The phase ratio (R = Vaq/Vorg, A/O) and liquid holdup volume (V) of the ACC are important hydrodynamic characteristics. In this study, a liquid-fast-separation method was used to systematically investigate the effects of the operational and structural parameters on the V and R (A/O) of a φ20 ACC by using a 30%TBP/kerosene- HNO3 solution system. The results showed that the operational and structural parameters had different effects on the V and R (A/O) of the mixing and separating zones of the ACC, respectively. For the most frequently used structural parameters of the φ20 ACC, when the rotor speed was 3500 r/min, the total flow rate was 2.0 L/h, and the flow ratio (A/O) was 1, the liquid holdup volumes in the mixing zone and rotor were 8.03 and 14.0 mL, respectively, and the phase ratios (A/O) of the mixing zone and separating zone were 0.96 and 1.43, respectively. 展开更多
