Visualization of flow structures inside a conical spouted bed by electrical capacitance volume tomography

Electrical capacitance volume tomography (ECVT) was conducted to measure instantaneous gas–solid flow structures in a conical spouted bed. The sensor has 24 electrodes/channels and was used to make three-dimensional measurements of the solid volume fraction. Flow structures in the conical spouted bed were analyzed using quantitative ECVT images. Three-dimensional images of gas–solid flow structures and time-averaged vertical and radial solid volume fraction profiles are presented. Different fluidization regimes in spouted beds were characterized by analyzing pressure fluctuation signals and ECVT images. ECVT was shown to be robust and powerful for the three-dimensional visualization and quantitative measurement of a gas–solid fluidization system. 展开更多

Multiple regeneration of axonal buds has been shown to exist during the repair of peripheral nerve injury,which confirms a certain repair potential of the injured peripheral nerve.Therefore,a systematic nerve transposition repair technique has been proposed to treat severe peripheral nerve injury.During nerve transposition repair,the regenerated nerve fibers of motor neurons in the anterior horn of the spinal cord can effectively grow into the repaired distal nerve and target muscle tissues,which is conducive to the recovery of motor function.The aim of this study was to explore regeneration and nerve functional recovery after repairing a long-segment peripheral nerve defect by transposition of different donor nerves.A long-segment(2 mm)ulnar nerve defect in Sprague-Dawley rats was repaired by transposition of the musculocutaneous nerve,medial pectoral nerve,muscular branches of the radial nerve and anterior interosseous nerve(pronator quadratus muscle branch).In situ repair of the ulnar nerve was considered as a control.Three months later,wrist flexion function,nerve regeneration and innervation muscle recovery in rats were assessed using neuroelectrophysiological testing,osmic acid staining and hematoxylin-eosin staining,respectively.Our findings indicate that repair of a long-segment ulnar nerve defect with different donor nerve transpositions can reinnervate axonal function of motor neurons in the anterior horn of spinal cord and restore the function of affected limbs to a certain extent. 展开更多

Surface-to-bed heat transfer for high-density particles in conical spouted and spout–fluid beds

Bed-to-surface heat transfer experiments from a vertically submerged cylindrical surface were conducted in laboratory-scale (Dc = 25 cm) conical spouted and spout–fluid beds at two different conical angles (31° and 66°) in the high particle density range (2500 kg/m3 ≤ρp ≤ 6000 kg/m3). The effects of the bed design parameters (conical angle and inlet diameter of spouting gas entrance) and operating conditions (static bed height, particle size, density, and spouting and fluidization gas flow rates) on the heat transfer characteristics were investigated in detail. The heat transfer coefficients were shown to be dependent on the density and size of the particles. The minimum stable spouting velocities of the denser and larger particles were higher, which led to higher operational spouting velocities and thereby resulted in higher heat transfer coefficients. The positive effect of increasing the particle diameter on heat transfer was more pronounced in the spout and at the spout–annulus interface, whereas this effect was diminished in the annulus region. The heat transfer coefficient increased with increasing spouting gas velocity up to 1.0Ums–1.1Ums, beyond which no significant change was observed regardless of the particle type. The heat transfer coefficient in the annulus decreased with increasing conical angle because of reduced particle circulation. The spout–fluid operation increased the heat transfer coefficient by a maximum of 10% at the expense of a significant increase of the total gas flow rate. This result was attributed to the inability of the fluidizing gas to penetrate the annulus. An empirical correlation for the average heat transfer coefficient in the annulus was also proposed based on the data obtained in this work. 展开更多

Conventional spouted beds have been extensively used in many real-life applications but are not suited for all types of materials, especially fine particles, which require internal devices to improve their motion in the spouted bed. However, unlike conventional spouted beds, there are almost no mechanistic or empirical models available for the design of spouted beds with internals. Given the availability of an extensive but not experimentally designed database, the main purpose of this study is to present an analysis of neural networks and empirical models in terms of their suitability to fit and predict average cycle times in conical spouted beds with and without draft tubes. The parameters investigated are particle size, density, contactor angle, gas inlet diameter, static bed height, and draft tube features. Although the amount of information is always a key factor when fitting models, the size of the database used in this study strongly affects the fitting performance of empirical models, whereas artificial neural networks are more influenced by how the data are scaled. Results of model verification show that both techniques are suitable for predicting average cycle times for data outside the range covered by the database. 展开更多

The reliability and accuracy of numerical results of microparticle fluidization in a conical bed, affected simultaneously by mesh refinement, the grid configuration and the wall boundary condition (BC), are analyzed. Specifically, pressure gradients and velocity profiles of titania powder are studied for a conical bed. The Gidaspow drag correlation and different wall BCs are considered using a Eulerian-Eulerian two-fluid model. Predictions of the pressure fluctuation, power spectra of the corresponding pressure fluctuations, bed pressure drop, minimum fluidizati on veloc ity, axial solid velocity, bed expansi on ratio, and particle size distribution are compared with experimental data. Mesh sensitivity analysis using hexahedral and tetrahedral cells with a un iform mesh and n ear-wall mesh refineme nr is con ducted to inv estigate the effects of mesh configurations in estimating particle flow patterns. Simulations show that significant savings in terms of computational time are realized by choosing a uniform mesh while the hexahedral structure, the near-wall mesh refinement, and the free-slip BC give the closest fit to the experimental data. 展开更多

A numerical study is carried out to investigate the influence of a sudden change of the specific force on a three-floated gyroscope with a rotor supported on gas-lubricated bearings.The interference torque is calculated to evaluate the influence by modeling the transient behavior of the rotor-bearing system. In combination with dynamic equations of the rotor displacement,the Reynolds equation is solved on the surface of spiral-grooved conical bearings. It is assumed that a steady state has been obtained with a constant specific force, and then the specific force is suddenly changed and maintained constant after that. Responses of the sudden change are obtained by solving the equations. Numerical results show that the direction of the sudden change of the specific force is the main factor which influences the interference torque curve. With a sudden change along the input direction, the interference torque fluctuation has a constant frequency and a decreasing amplitude. With a sudden change along the output direction, the interference torque fluctuates in a small range. With a sudden change along the spin direction, the change of the interference torque combines a fluctuation and a gradually-changing quasi-equilibrium value. This study provides a supplement to the steady-state error model of the three-floated gyroscope. 展开更多

The flow past a circular-section cylinder with a conic shroud perforated with four holes at the peak was simulated numerically at Re=100,considering two factors,viz.the angle of attack and the diameter of the holes.The effects of the perforated conic shroud on the vortex shedding pattern in the nearwakewasmainly investigated,as well as the time history of the drag and lift forces.In the investigated parameter space,three flow regimes were generally identified,corresponding to weak,moderate,and strong disturbance effects.In regime I,the wake can mainly be described by alternately shedding Kármán or Kármán-like vortices.In regime II,the spanwise vortices are obviously disturbed along the span due to the appearance of additional vorticity components and their interactions with the spanwise vortices,but still shed in synchronization along the spanwise direction.In regime III,the typical Kármán vortices partially or totally disappear,and some new vortex shedding patterns appear,such as -type,obliquely shedding,and crossed spanwise vortices with opposite sign.Corresponding to these complex vortex shedding patterns in the near wake,the fluid forces no longer oscillate regularly at a single vortex shedding frequency,but rather with a lower modulation frequency and multiple amplitudes.An overview of these flow regimes is presented. 展开更多

随着机械电子设备的不断发展,热管理问题面临越来越严重的挑战,为解决此问题,根据仿生学原理,以天鹅绒竹芋表面微观凸起结构为设计依据,以纳米尺度铜粉为材料烧结制备锥形毛细芯,构造新型平板热管,并以去离子水为工质对其热性能进行研... 随着机械电子设备的不断发展,热管理问题面临越来越严重的挑战,为解决此问题,根据仿生学原理,以天鹅绒竹芋表面微观凸起结构为设计依据,以纳米尺度铜粉为材料烧结制备锥形毛细芯,构造新型平板热管,并以去离子水为工质对其热性能进行研究。研究加热功率、平板热管放置角度及毛细芯氧化与未氧化等因素对平板热管传热特性的影响。结果表明,由于锥形毛细芯多尺度孔隙结构的存在,不仅实现蒸汽从大尺度孔隙逸出,液体从小孔隙吸入,而且缩短了液体流动路径,减小了流动阻力,同时扩大了换热面积,因此大大提高了平板热管的传热性能。锥形毛细芯平板热管具有较好的传热性能及抗重力特性。毛细芯经氧化处理后可显著减小平板热管的换热热阻,提高平板热管的传热性能,在热流密度为107.1 W/cm~2时,其总热阻最小值为0.079 K/W。 展开更多

为研究圆锥形中空夹层钢管约束混凝土短柱在轴向局压下的力学性能,建立有限元计算分析模型,并得到试验验证。在此基础上分析钢管与夹层混凝土的组合作用及短柱的破坏形态,同时研究各重要参数对其荷载-位移曲线的影响。
