Geotechnical stability is a major concern for the long-term safety and integrity of underground infrastructures such as tunnels,railway stations,mine shafts and hydraulic power chambers.An effective geotechnical monitoring system is able to provide adequate warning to underground personnel prior to any unexpected major geotechnical failure.This paper reviews the conventional geotechnical monitoring sensors and the emerging Fibre Optic Sensing(FOS)techniques,pointing out their unique features and major differences.Recent advances in various FOS based monitoring systems,including Brillouin time domain distributed optical sensors and fibre Bragg grating(FBG)sensors,are investigated through a critical review of the laboratory studies and field applications used for underground geotechnical monitoring.Particular emphasis is given to fibre packaging,temperature compensation,installation methods and instrumentation performance in the underground environment.A detailed discussion of the advantages and limitations of each FOS monitoring system is also presented in this paper. 展开更多

This paper focuses on the study of the effect of modification of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch(OPEFB)and sugarcane bagasse(SCB)biomass as potential reinforcement for composites panel and thermal insulation.Both fibres were treated with three types of chemicals:2%silane,4%H2O2 and 4%H2O2-2%silane for 3 h.The influence of modified fibres content in composites was examined by structural changes using image analyser,Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),tensile,interracial shear strength(IFSS)and thermal characteristic.The diameter of both fibres was reduced after treatment and showed decreasing of lignin and hemi-cellulose in fibre.Tensile strength has been increased by 2%silane treatment for both fibres and 4%H2O2 treatment displays higher result for IFSS.Thermal properties of treated SCB fibre with silane display higher residual content and better thermal stability.SEM charac-terization showed that 2%silane treatment removed silica bodies of OPEFB fibre while 4%H2O2 treatment uniformly filled porosity of SCB fibre.Finally,results revealed that treated OPEFB fibre is enough to improve compatibility and mechanical properties,while treated SCB fibre was effective in thermal stability for fabrication of composite materials. 展开更多

The effect of microwave treatment on the tensile properties of treated sugar palm fibre with 6%NaOH reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane composites was investigated.Firstly,the sugar palm fibres were treated by 6%alkali solution.Then,microwave treatment was used to treat the alkali treated sugar palm fibres.Three types of temperatures(i.e.70,80 and 90 C)were applied in microwave treatment.The extruder and hot press machines were used to mixing the sugar palm fibres and polyurethane resin,and fabricate the composites.Tensile properties(i.e.tensile strength,tensile modulus and elongation at break)were studied by following the ASTM D-638 standard.The highest tensile strength was recorded 18.42 MPa with microwave temperature at 70 C and 6%alkali pre-treatment.Therefore,the temperature 70 C of microwave treatment may consider the best degree cent grate. 展开更多

The objective of this study was to compare the wood properties related to wood pulp quality of two widely planted Acacia species viz.Acacia mangium Willd.and Acacia auriculiformis A.Cunn.Ex Benth.and their hybrid.Acid insoluble lignin content(Klason),mean stem density and fibre length differed considerably among the species and hybrids.A.mangium possessed a high percent of lignin content compared to A.auriculiformis and the Acacia hybrid.However,mean stem density of A.auriculiformis was higher than A.mangium and the hybrid.Fibre length of heartwood tissues was generally shorter than that of sapwood tissues.The hybrid had longer fibres than the parent species.Lignin was negatively correlated with mean stem density.Generally,the wood properties of the hybrid were superior to its parent species.The significant intraspecific variation observed for wood properties of Acacia species could be used in breeding superior hybrids combining desirable traits of the two species.Considering the difficulty involved in accurately measuring the lignin content compared to mean stem density,selection for plants with low lignin content can be achieved by indirect selection of high mean stem density. 展开更多

Fibres from a variety of sources are a common constituent of pig feeds.They provide a means to utilise locallyproduced plant materials which are often a by-product of the food or drink industry.The value of a high fibre diet in terms of producing satiety has long been recognised.However the addition of fibre can reduce feed intake,which is clearly detrimental during stages of the production cycle when nutrient needs are high,for example in growing piglets and during lactation.More recently,fibre has been found to promote novel benefits to pig production systems,particularly given the reduction in antimicrobial use world-wide,concern for the welfare of animals fed a restricted diet and the need to ensure that such systems are more environmentally friendly.For example,inclusion of dietary fibre can alter the gut microbiota in ways that could reduce the need for antibiotics,while controlled addition of certain fibre types may reduce nitrogen losses into the environment and so reduce the environmental cost of pig production.Of particular potential value is the opportunity to use crude fibre concentrates as‘functional’feed additives to improve young pig growth and welfare.Perhaps the greatest opportunity for the use of high fibre diets is to improve the reproductive efficiency of pigs.Increased dietary fibre before mating improves oocyte maturation,prenatal survival and litter size;providing a consumer-acceptable means of increasing the amount of saleable meat produced per sow.The mechanisms responsible for these beneficial effects remain to be elucidated.However,changes in plasma and follicular fluid concentrations of key hormones and metabolites,as well as effects of the hypothalamic satiety centre on gonadotrophin secretion and epigenetic effects are strong candidates. 展开更多

The present investigation is focused on studying the effects of various matrices with 1:3,1:4and 1:5 mortars and fibre types of sisal and coir on the bond behavior at various ages of curing,i.e.,24h,3d,7d and 28d.The other parameters included in the investigation are water/cement (w/c)ratio,sand gradation and embedment length of fibres.In addition,the type of failure of sisal and coir fibres for different mixes of mortars at various curing ages is also reported.From the results,it is seen that the bond strength is improving with respect to age of curing in case of sisal fibres, but decreases in case ofcoir fibres.The failure of fibres due to fibre fracture is observed in sisal fibres and fibre pullout is observed in coir fibres.The other varying parameters such as mortar mixes,sand gradation,w/c ratio and embedded length also showed significant effect on bond behaviour of sisal and coir fibre with the cement mortar mixes. 展开更多

In this paper, the debonding of a single fiber-matrix system of carbon fiber reinforced composite (12FRP) AS4/Epson 828 material is studied using Cohesive Zone Model (CZM). The effect of parameters namely, maximum tangential contact stress, tangential slip distance and artificial damping coefficient on the debonding length at the interface of the fiber-matrix is analyzed. Contact elements used in the CZM are coupled based on a bilinear stress-strain curve. Load is applied on the matrix, tangential to the interface. Hence, debonding is observed primarily in Mode II. Wide range of values are considered to study the inter-dependency of the parameters and its effect on debonding length. Out of the three parameters mentioned, artificial damping coefficient and tangential slip distance significantly affect debonding length. A thorough investigation is recommended for case wise interface debonding analysis, to estimate the optimal parametric values while using CZM. 展开更多

针对元坝长兴组储层水平段酸化改造中均匀布酸难题,开展了暂堵酸化用复合暂堵剂研究。通过泥浆漏速与缝宽拟合软件分析了长兴组储层裂缝宽度,研究确定了酸溶性纤维种类、长度及用量,优化了颗粒材料的种类、用量及粒径组合,在此基础上形... 针对元坝长兴组储层水平段酸化改造中均匀布酸难题,开展了暂堵酸化用复合暂堵剂研究。通过泥浆漏速与缝宽拟合软件分析了长兴组储层裂缝宽度,研究确定了酸溶性纤维种类、长度及用量,优化了颗粒材料的种类、用量及粒径组合,在此基础上形成复合暂堵剂并开展堵漏性能评价实验。结果表明,研制的冻胶+纤维+碳酸钙颗粒复合暂堵剂酸溶解性好,对储层伤害性低,在10MPa压力条件下能够封堵1~5 mm不同宽度的裂缝。 展开更多
