As one solution to implement the largecapacity space division multiplexing(SDM)transmission systems,the mode division multiplexing(MDM)has gained much attention recently.The vector mode(VM),which is the eigenmode of the optical fiber,has also been adopted to realize the optical communications including the transmission over free-space optical(FSO)and optical fiber links.Considering the concerns on the short-reach optical interconnects,the low cost and high integration technologies should be developed.Direct detection(DD)with higher-order modulation formats in combination of MDM technologies could offer an available trade-off in system performance and complexity.We review demonstrations of FSO and fiber high-speed data transmission based on the VM MDM(VMDM)technologies.The special VMs,cylindrical vector beams(CVB),have been generated by the q-plate(QP)and characterized accordingly.And then they were used to implement the VMDM transmission with direct-detection orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(DD-OFDM).These demonstrations show the potential of VMDM-DD-OFDM technology in the large-capacity short-reach transmission links. 展开更多

This paper presents a method of thermal state calculation of combustion chamber in small thrust liquid rocket engine. The goal is to predict the thermal state of chamber wall by using basic parameters of engine: thrust level, propellants, chamber pressure, injection pattern, film cooling parameters, material of wall and their coating, etc. The difficulties in modeling the startup and shutdown processes of thrusters lie in the fact that there are the conjugated physical processes occurring at various parameters for non-design conditions. A mathematical model to predict the thermal state of the combustion chamber for different engine operation modes is developed. To simulate the startup and shutdown processes, a quasi-steady approach is applied by replacing the transient process with time-variant operating parameters of steady-state processes. The mathematical model is based on several principles and data commonly used for heat transfer modeling: geometry of flow part, gas dynamics of flow, thermodynamics of propellants and combustion spices, convective and radiation heat flows, conjugated heat transfer between hot gas and wall, and transient approach for calculation of thermal state of construction. Calculations of the thermal state of the combustion chamber in single-turn-on mode show good convergence with the experimental results. The results of pulsed modes indicate a large temperature gradient on the internal wall surface of the chamber between pulses and the thermal state of the wall strongly depends on the pulse duration and the interval. 展开更多

Multi-scale spatial relationships between soil total nitrogen and influencing factors in a basin landscape based on multivariate empirical mode decomposition 预览

The relationships between soil total nitrogen(STN)and influencing factors are scale-dependent.The objective of this study was to identify the multi-scale spatial relationships of STN with selected environmental factors(elevation,slope and topographic wetness index),intrinsic soil factors(soil bulk density,sand content,silt content,and clay content)and combined environmental factors(including the first two principal components(PC1 and PC2)of the Vis-NIR soil spectra)along three sampling transects located at the upstream,midstream and downstream of Taiyuan Basin on the Chinese Loess Plateau.We separated the multivariate data series of STN and influencing factors at each transect into six intrinsic mode functions(IMFs)and one residue by multivariate empirical mode decomposition(MEMD).Meanwhile,we obtained the predicted equations of STN based on MEMD by stepwise multiple linear regression(SMLR).The results indicated that the dominant scales of explained variance in STN were at scale 995 m for transect 1,at scales 956 and 8852 m for transect 2,and at scales 972,5716 and 12,317 m for transect 3.Multi-scale correlation coefficients between STN and influencing factors were less significant in transect 3 than in transects 1 and 2.The goodness of fit root mean square error(RMSE),normalized root mean square error(NRMSE),and coefficient of determination(R2)indicated that the prediction of STN at the sampling scale by summing all of the predicted IMFs and residue was more accurate than that by SMLR directly.Therefore,the multi-scale method of MEMD has a good potential in characterizing the multi-scale spatial relationships between STN and influencing factors at the basin landscape scale. 展开更多

In this paper,the attitude tracking control problem for a rigid spacecraft in the presence of system parameter uncertainties and external disturbances is addressed.First,a new nonsingular finite-time sliding surface is introduced and third-order sliding mode finite-time attitude control law is designed to achieve precise accurate tracking responses and robustness against inertia uncertainties and external disturbances.The stability of the closed-loop system is rigorously proved using the Lyapunov stability theory.Then,a new finite-time extended state observer is established to estimate total disturbances of the system.The extended stated observer-based sliding mode control technique yields improved disturbance rejection and high-precision attitude tracking.Moreover,this control law can avoid the unwinding phenomenon and overcome the input saturation constraint by introducing an auxiliary variable to compensate for the overshooting.A Lyapunov based analysis is provided to guarantee sufficiently small observation error and stabilization of the closed-loop system in finite time.Numerical simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method. 展开更多

The effects of externally applied resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) on the locked mode of the neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) are numerically investigated by means of a set of reduced magnetohydrodynamic equations.It is found that,for a small bootstrap current fraction,three regimes,namely the slight suppression regime,the small locked island (SLI) regime and the big locked island (BLI) regime,are discovered with the increase of RMP strength.For a much higher bootstrap current fraction,however,a new oscillation regime appears instead of the SLI regime,although the other regimes still remain.The physical process in each regime is analyzed in detail based on the phase difference between the NTM and the RMP.Moreover,the critical values of the RMP in both SLI and BLI regimes are obtained,and their dependence on key plasma parameters is discussed as well. 展开更多

Why Is the East Asian Summer Monsoon Extremely Strong in 2018?--Collaborative Effects of SST and Snow Cover Anomalies

In 2018,summer precipitation was above normal in North and Northwest China and below normal around the Yangtze River valley,due to an extremely strong East Asian summer monsoon(EASM).The atmospheric circulation anomalies in East Asia and key external forcing factors that influence the EASM in 2018 are explored in this paper.The results show that there existed an anomalous cyclonic circulation near the Philippines,while the western Pacific subtropical high was located more northward than its normal position.In the mid–high latitudes,a negative geopotential height anomaly center was found near the Ural Mountains,suppressing the blocking activity.Under such a circulation pattern,precipitation near the Yangtze River valley decreased because local divergence and subsidence intensified,whereas precipitation in northern China increased due to large amounts of water vapor transport by anomalously strong southerly winds.Further analyses reveal that the strong EASM circulation in 2018 might result from the joint influences of several external forcing factors.The weak La Ni?a event that started from October 2017,the positive North Atlantic Tripolar mode(NAT)in spring 2018,and the reduced snow cover over the Tibetan Plateau in winter 2017/18 all collaboratively contributed to formation of the cyclonic circulation anomaly near the Philippines,leading to the extremely strong EASM.Especially,the positive NAT and the reduced Tibetan snow cover may have caused the negative geopotential height anomaly near the Ural Mountains,in favor of a strong EASM.The above external factors and their reinforcing impacts on the EASM are further verified by two groups of similar historical cases. 展开更多

Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR) method is a widely used method in engineering geophysical exploration at home and abroad. Compared with other geological exploration methods, the GPR method has the advantages of faster detection, higher resolution, convenient operation and relatively low detection cost. With the wide application and continuous development of GPR methods, the processing and interpretation of GPR data is increasingly important. The authors introduce the development process and current situation of the modal decomposition method in processing GPR data, summarize the principles of four modal decomposition methods, and compare their advantages and disadvantages in ground penetrating radar data processing. The results show that when the quality of GPR data is good and the noise is small, Empirical Mode Decomposition(EMD) and Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition(EEMD) methods can be used for processing, whereas when the noise interference is large or the underground medium is complex, Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition(CEEMD) and Variational Mode Decomposition(VMD) methods can be used for processing. The four modal decomposition methods have their own advantages and disadvantages in GPR data processing. At present, the processing of GPR data by CEEMD and VMD methods is the focus of research and discussion at home and abroad. 展开更多

We propose a mode demultiplexing hybrid(MDH) that integrates mode demultiplexing, local oscillator power splitting, and optical 90-deg mixing using multi-plane light conversion(MPLC). We demonstrate the realization of a three-mode MDH using four phase plates, one more than what is required for an MPLC-based mode demultiplexer, via numerical simulations. The performance of the three-mode MDH is comparable to that of commercial single-mode 90-deg hybrids. This multiple-functionality device enables simplification of the coherent optical front end of mode-division multiplexing receivers. 展开更多

For the best possible estimation and guidance performance, the mode decision delay of the mode decision-maker should be limited to a range as small as possible. This paper presents a numerical method for computing the maximal admissible mode decision delay that varies with time-to-go. Particular attention has been paid to highly maneuvering target interception in terminal guidance. Elastic critical buckling load of a column depends on various parameters,such as boundary conditions,material,and crosssection geometry.The main purpose of this work is to present a new method for investigating the buckling load of tapered columns subjected to axial force.The proposed method is based on modified buckling mode shape of tapered structure and perturbation theory.The mode shape of the damaged structure can be expressed as a linear combination of mode shapes of the intact structure.Variations in length in piecewise form can be positive or negative.The method can be used for single-span and continuous columns.Comparison of results with those of finite element and Timoshenko methods shows the high accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method for detecting buckling load. 展开更多
