Due to many remarkable physical and chemical properties, two-dimensional(2D) nanomaterials have become a hot spot in the field of condensed matter physics. In this paper, we have studied the structural, mechanical, and electronic properties of the 2D GaInO3 system by first-principles method. We find that 2D Ga InO3 can exist stably at ambient condition. Molecular dynamic simulations show that GaInO3-sheet has excellent thermal stability and is stable up to1100 K. Electronic structural calculations show that GaInO3-sheet has a band gap of 1.56 eV, which is close to the ideal band gap of solar cell materials, demonstrating great potential in future photovoltaic application. In addition, strain effect studies show that the GaInO3-sheet structure always exhibits a direct band gap under biaxial compressive strain, and as the biaxial compressive strain increases, the band gap gradually decreases until it is converted into metal. While biaxial tensile strain can cause the 2D material to transform from a direct band gap semiconductor into an indirect band gap semiconductor,and even to metal. Our research expands the application of the Ga InO3 system, which may have potential application value in electronic devices and solar energy. 展开更多

Particle breakage is commonly observed in granular materials when subjected to external loads.It was found that particle breakage would occur during both sample preparation and loading stages.However,main attention was usually paid to the particle breakage behaviour of samples during loading stage.This study attempts to explore the breakage behaviour of granular materials during sample preparation.Triaxial samples of rockfill aggregates are prepared by layered compaction method to achieve different relative densities.Extents of particle breakage based on the gradings before and after test are presented and analysed.It is found that particle breakage during sample preparation cannot be ignored.Gradings after test are observed to shift away from the initial grading.Aggregates with larger size that appear to break are more than the smaller-sized ones.Irrespective of the initial gradings,an increase in the extent of particle breakage with the increasing relative density is observed during sample preparation. 展开更多

Kevlar is the most commonly used material as armour for protection against bullets used in hand guns because of its impact resistance,high strength and low weight.These properties make Kevlar an ideal material to be used in bullet-proof vests as compared to other materials.In the present study,different numbers of layers of Kevlar with different weights are tested to determine the weights and the number of layers needed to design a safe bullet-proof vest.For this purpose,several ballistic tests were performed on combinations of ballistic gel and Kevlar layers of different weights.Ballistic impacts are generated by 9mm Parabellum ammunition.The objective is to assess the characteristics of high-speed ballistic penetration into a combination of a gel and Kevlar and determine the number of layers needed to safely stop the 9mm bullet and thereby contribute to the design of safe bullet-proof vests.The tests provide information on the distances the bullets can travel in a gel/Kevlar medium before they are stopped and to identify the resistance capabilities of Kevlar of different grams per square meter(GSM).The tests were conducted with the use of a chronograph in a controlled test environment.Specifically,results identify the number of layers of Kevlar required to stop a 9mm Parabellum projectile,and the effectiveness of using different number of layers of GSM Kevlar material. 展开更多

Preparation of nitrogen doped clews-like carbon materials and their application as the electrode in supercapacitor

In this work, nitrogen doped clews-like carbon materials were successfully fabricated through hydrothermal polymerization method, followed by post treatment that integrated the carbonization,activation and post-nitrogen doping into one process. This preparation method can form particular hierarchical porous structure without using any sacrificial templates. The experimental results show that the nitrogen doped clews-like hierarchical porous carbon materials possess a relatively high specific surface area of 815 m~2/g with the nitrogen content of 10.58 at%. The electrochemical properties show that the resulting sample delivers 258 F/g at a 0.5 A/g and excellent capacity retention of 79% at 20 A/g. After conducting 10,000 charge-discharge cycles at 10 A/g, the capacitance retention of 98.3% is achieved.These intriguing results demonstrate that the obtained nitrogen doped clews-like carbon materials will be promising electrode materials for supercapacitor and other energy storage devices. 展开更多

Zn3V3O8 two-dimensional micro sheets are successfully synthesized by combination of solvothermal method and heat treatment. The X-ray diffraction(XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy(SEM) are used to characterize the structure and morphology of the samples, and the battery testing system is used to investigate its electrochemical performance. The results show that the Zn3V3O8 is successfully obtained using mix solvent(water:ethylene glycol =1:1), and the sample takes on morphology of two-dimensional sheets. The initial discharge capacity for Zn3V3O8 two-dimensional micro sheets is 752.0 mAh/g at 100 mA/g in the voltage range of 0.01-3 V. After heat treatment in a tube furnace at 550 ℃, the sample had the initial discharge capacity as 1152.0 mAh/g and maintained it at 901.4 mAh/g after 100 cycles. The good electrochemical performance for Zn3V3O8 two-dimensional micro sheets make it possible to be used as novel anode for lithium ion battery application. 展开更多

In the present study, the free vibration of laminated functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite beams is analyzed. The laminated beam is made of perfectly bonded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (CNTRC) layers. In each layer, single-walled carbon nanotubes are assumed to be unifonnly distributed (UD) or functionally graded (FG) distributed along the thickness direction. Effective material properties of the two-phase composites, a mixture of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and an isotropic polymer, are calculated using the extended nile of mixture. The first-order shear deformation theory is used to formulate a governing equation for predicting free vibration of laminated functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG?CNTRC) beams. The governing equation is solved by the finite element method with various boundary conditions. Several numerical tests are perfbnned to investigate the influence of the CNTs volume fractions, CNTs distributions, CNTs orientation angles, boundary conditions, length-to-thickness ratios and the numbers of layers on the frequencies of the laminated FG-CNTRC beams. Accordingly, a method based on sheet-bulk metal forming for fabricating a duplex gear with extremely small die roll in one stroke is proposed in the current work. The process could be divided into three stages according to the forming features: upsetting and shearing stage, lateral extrusion stage, and local filling stage. The die roll appeared in the shearing stage, which could be reduced in the subsequent extrusion and local filling stages. To reveal the underground mechanism, material flows under two situations, as a key factor to influence the forming quality, were compared and investigated. The results revealed that by controlling material flow, one could avoid the defects and reduce the die roll. 展开更多

Experimental investigations were taken for the degradation of concrete under coupling effects of hydrochloric acid mist and mixed salt mist consisting of chlorine and sulfate and carbon dioxide according to coal mine environment.Concrete specimens were subjected to four different deterioration time from 45 days to 180 days,with an interval of 45 days.The results showed that the carbonization depth of concrete increased speedy at first,then gently and then rapidly again with the change of fragility.The compressive strength of concrete increased at the initial stage of deterioration,and then decreased until the time of 135 days when they came to the second ascension of small quantity and then entered the decline trend under the coupling effect of carbonization and acid-salt attack.The elastic modulus changed slightly with the deterioration,meanwhile the fragility and ductility changed significantly before and after deterioration time of 180 days,which was identical to the failure modes. 展开更多
