Ocean underwater exploration is a part of oceanography that investigates the physical and biological conditions for scientific and commercial purposes.And video technology plays an important role and is extensively applied for underwater environment observation.Different from the conventional methods,video technology explores the underwater ecosystem continuously and non-invasively.However,due to the scattering and attenuation of light transport in the water,complex noise distribution and lowlight condition cause challenges for underwater video applications including object detection and recognition.In this paper,we propose a new deep encoding-decoding convolutional architecture for underwater object recognition.It uses the deep encoding-decoding network for extracting the discriminative features from the noisy low-light underwater images.To create the deconvolutional layers for classification,we apply the deconvolution kernel with a matched feature map,instead of full connection,to solve the problem of dimension disaster and low accuracy.Moreover,we introduce data augmentation and transfer learning technologies to solve the problem of data starvation.For experiments,we investigated the public datasets with our proposed method and the state-of-the-art methods.The results show that our work achieves significant accuracy.This work provides new underwater technologies applied for ocean exploration. 展开更多

Accumulating evidence indicates that inhalation anesthetics induce or increase the risk of cognitive impairment.GLYX-13(rapastinel)acts on the glycine site of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors(NMDARs)and has been shown to enhance hippocampus-dependent learning and memory function.However,the mechanisms by which GLYX-13 affects learning and memory function are still unclear.In this study,we investigated these mechanisms in a mouse model of long-term anesthesia exposure.Mice were intravenously administered 1 mg/kg GLYX-13 at 2 hours before isoflurane exposure(1.5%for 6 hours).Cognitive function was assessed using the contextual fear conditioning test and the novel object recognition test.The mRNA expression and phosphorylated protein levels of NMDAR pathway components,N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit 2B(NR2B)-Ca^2+/calmodulin dependent protein kinaseⅡ(CaMKII)-cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein(CREB),in the hippocampus were evaluated by quantitative RT-PCR and western blot assay.Pretreatment with GLYX-13 ameliorated isoflurane exposure-induced cognitive impairment and restored NR2B,CaMKII and CREB mRNA and phosphorylated protein levels.Intracerebroventricular injection of KN93,a selective CaMKII inhibitor,significantly diminished the effect of GLYX-13 on cognitive function and NR2B,CaMKII and CREB levels in the hippocampus.Taken together,our findings suggest that GLYX-13 pretreatment alleviates isoflurane-induced cognitive dysfunction by protecting against perturbation of the NR2B/CaMKII/CREB signaling pathway in the hippocampus.Therefore,GLYX-13 may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of anesthesia-induced cognitive dysfunction.This study was approved by the Experimental Animal Ethics Committee of Drum Tower Hospital affiliated to the Medical College of Nanjing University,China(approval No.20171102)on November 20,2017. 展开更多

Indoor Scene understanding and indoor objects detection is a complex high-level task for automated systems applied to natural environments.Indeed,such a task requires huge annotated indoor images to train and test intelligent computer vision applications.One of the challenging questions is to adopt and to enhance technologies to assist indoor navigation for visually impaired people(VIP)and thus improve their daily life quality.This paper presents a new labeled indoor object dataset elaborated with a goal of indoor object detection(useful for indoor localization and navigation tasks).This dataset consists of 8000 indoor images containing 16 different indoor landmark objects and classes.The originality of the annotations comes from two new facts taken into account:(1)the spatial relationships between objects present in the scene and(2)actions possible to apply to those objects(relationships between VIP and an object).This collected dataset presents many specifications and strengths as it presents various data under various lighting conditions and complex image background to ensure more robustness when training and testing objects detectors.The proposed dataset,ready for use,provides 16 vital indoor object classes in order to contribute for indoor assistance navigation for VIP. 展开更多

This study reports the performances of efficiency calibrations for high-purity-germanium gamma-ray spectrometry using the source-, Laboratory Sourceless Object Calibration Software (LabSOCS)- and ANGLE-based methods in an inter-comparison exercise. Although the results of LabSOCS and ANGLE for 241Am emitting lowenergy gamma rays were not very satisfactory, all of the three efficiency calibration methods passed acceptance criteria. The results confirmed the reliability of the calculation codes ANGLE and LabSOCS as alternative efficiency calibration methods in high-purity-germanium gamma spectrometry. This study is likely to promote the further application of the ANGLE and LabSOCS calculation codes in radioactivity measurements. 展开更多

汉语和日语中有近350个汉日同形V-N动词,利用语料库调查其在两国语言中的用法可以发现,近三分之一的动词在汉日语中用法相同,其中多数无法带宾语,仅有少数可以带宾语。剩余近三分之二的动词在汉日语中用法存在差异,主要区别是汉语无法... 汉语和日语中有近350个汉日同形V-N动词,利用语料库调查其在两国语言中的用法可以发现,近三分之一的动词在汉日语中用法相同,其中多数无法带宾语,仅有少数可以带宾语。剩余近三分之二的动词在汉日语中用法存在差异,主要区别是汉语无法直接带宾语,而日语具备直接带宾语的能力。汉语受词语结构影响,一般V-N动词很少能带宾语,而日语「漢語動詞」词汇化程度高,且日语是SOV结构,对V-N动词带宾语的限制没有汉语严格,因此日语中多数V-N动词具备带宾语的能力。 展开更多

We presen t LBW-Net,an efficient optimization based method for qua nt ization and training of the low bit-width convolutional neural networks(CNNs).Specifically,we quantize the weights to zero or powers of 2 by minimizing the Euclidean distance between full-precision weights and quantized weights during backpropagation(weight learning).We characterize the combinatorial nature of the low bit-width quantization problem.For 2-bit(ternary)CNNs,the quantization of N weights can be done by an exact formula in O(N log N)complexity.When the bit-width is 3 and above,we further propose a semi-analytical thresholding scheme with a single free parameter for quantization that is computationally inexpensive.The free parameter is further determined by network retraining and object detection tests.The LBW-Net has several desirable advantages over full-precision CNNs,including considerable memory savings,energy efficiency,and faster deployment.Our experiments on PASCAL VOC dataset show that compared with its 32-bit floating-point counterpart,the performance of the 6-bit LBW-Net is nearly lossless in the object detection tasks,and can even do better in real world visual scenes,while empirically enjoying more than 4× faster deployment. 展开更多

Detecting and segmenting salient objects from natural scenes, often referred to as salient object detection, has attracted great interest in computer vision. While many models have been proposed and several applications have emerged, a deep understanding of achievements and issues remains lacking. We aim to provide a comprehensive review of recent progress in salient object detection and situate this field among other closely related areas such as generic scene segmentation, object proposal generation, and saliency for fixation prediction. Covering 228 publications, we survey i) roots, key concepts, and tasks, ii) core techniques and main modeling trends, and iii) datasets and evaluation metrics for salient object detection. We also discuss open problems such as evaluation metrics and dataset bias in model performance, and suggest future research directions. 展开更多

Speed is the new stealth and earlier this week America’s top nuclear commander described a grim scenario for U.S.forces facing off against hypersonic weapons.“We do not have any defense that could deny the employment of such a weapon against us,”Air Force Gen.John Hyten,commander of U.S.Strategic Command,told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday March 20,2018.Russian and Chinese are aggressively developing new weapons that travel at Mach 5 or higher,which is at least five times faster than speed of sound(hypersonic).These weapons travel in excess of 3,600 miles per hour(1 mile per second)and currently,no military possesses a credible defense.Finding,tracking and intercepting something that fast is unprecedented.Given that Russia and China have invested heavily in advanced defensive technologies that now hold most of our traditional forms of power projection at risk,this is a significant advantage—it is one that would impose major costs upon a defending nation.Recently,according to the director of the Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office(ARCCTO),The Army will field a battery of truck-borne hypersonic missiles in 2023,with a contract award in August,the service’s new three-star Program Executive Officer said.The service will also field a battery of 50-kilowatt lasers on Stryker armored vehicles by 2021,he said.A program to put a 100-plus-kilowatt laser on a heavy truck,however,is under review and may be combined with Air Force and/or Navy efforts to reach comparable power levels,Lt.Gen.Neil Thurgood told reporters in his interview.In this white paper we are suggesting a new technology as a counter-measure against such an adversary measure and threat that is aggressively being pursued by these two nations,Russia and China both tactically and strategically.We also briefly discuss possible physics and science of aerodynamics involved with these vehicles traveling between range of 5 Mach and higher,where we discuss current status and future direction driven by phenomena of pl 展开更多
