Severity and injury characteristics among matched hospitalized motorcycle drivers and their passengers

Purpose: After car accident, motorcycle accident ranks as the second leading cause of traffic fatality in Iran. This study aimed to compare the severity and clinical presentations between drivers and passengers under the same injury circumstance. Methods: This study was conducted in the trauma center of Shiraz, Iran in 2017. Data on demographics, triage level, blood pressure, respiratory rate, Glasgow coma scale (GCS), injured body region, injury severity score (ISS), revised trauma score (RTS), and result of accident were compared between pairs of Keywords: Injuries Motorcycle driver Passenger drivers and passengers. The agreement of any type of injury between drivers and passengers evaluated by Kappa test. Results: This study included 143 matched pairs of drivers and passengers. Most of the pairs (84.5%) did not use helmet and 77.2% of the riders do not have driving license. ISS was significantly higher in drivers than passengers. In the unmatched pairs, drivers and passengers showed no difference in sustaining injuries in the face, head & neck, chest and soft tissue, but drivers were found more likely to suffer from injuries in the abdomen, extremities, pelvis and spine than passengers. Once one part of the matched pair suffered injury in the head & neck, face, chest, abdomen, extremities and soft tissue & skin injury, the probability that the other part had an injury in the same region was 50%, 9%, 13%, 7%, 22% and 34% respectively. Kappa value for these body regions was 0.006, 0.009,-0.006, 0.068, 0.063 and 0.001, respectively, which was significant in abdomen and extremities. Conclusion: Although drivers had higher level of injury severity and some different injury distributions, we recommend equal treatment to drivers and passengers. We also recommend related authorities to develop policies on helmet use, driving license and third-party insurance. 展开更多

CO2 emission of urban passenger transportation in China from 2000 to 2014 预览

This study reviewed the urban passenger transportation(UPT)development of seven typical cities in China from 2000 to 2014,estimated the UPT CO2emission,analyzed the structure,and discussed the main factors of UPT CO,emission.Results showed that increases of GDP,population,and UPT scale of the cities have speeded up.The most significant development of UPT is that the growth of private vehicles is greatly faster than that of public transportation.The total and per-capita UPT CO2 emissions both increased.The share of private vehicles emission to total UPT CO2emission has increased,with the share in range of 65%-88%in 2014,exponentially leading to the increases of total and per-capita UPT CO2 emission.Although UPT CO2 emission structure with more share of public transportation would slow down the UPT CO2emission increase,private vehicle CO2 emission is recognized as the dominated driving factor.Contributions of driving factors,such as GDP,population,private vehicle CO2 emissions,to UPT CO2 emission are different among the cities.Private vehicle CO2 emission.is the dominated factor for UPT CO2emission in Beijing and Taiyuan.Besides private vehicle CO2emission,GDP also plays an important role in UPT CO2emissions of Chengdu,Shanghai,Guangzhou,and Urumqi.Contributions of private vehicle CO2 emission and GDP to UPT CO2 emission are almost same in Xi'an. 展开更多

Exploring the Evolution of Passenger Flow and Travel Time Reliability with the Expanding Process of Metro System Using Smartcard Data 预览

However, few studies have paid attention to the evolution in system usage with the network expanding. The paper’s main objectives are to analyze passenger flow characteristics and evaluate travel time reliability for the Nanjing Metro network by visualizing the smart card data of April 2014, April 2015 and April 2016. We performed visualization techniques and comparative analyses to examine the changes in system usage between before and after the system expansion. Specifically, workdays, holidays and weekends were specially segmented for analysis. Results showed that workdays had obvious morning and evening peak hours due to daily commuting, while no obvious peak hours existed in weekends and holidays and the daily traffic was evenly distributed. Besides, some metro stations had a serious directional imbalance, especially during the morning and evening peak hours of workdays. Serious unreliability occurred in morning peaks on workdays and the reliability of new lines was relatively low, meanwhile, new stations had negative effects on exiting stations in terms of reliability. Monitoring the evolution of system usage over years enables the identification of system performance and can serve as an input for improving the metro system quality. 展开更多

This paper describes two perspectives to improve the passenger experience.The passenger satisfaction pyramid is introduced,consisting of the base of the pyramid(dissatisfiers)focusing on time well saved and the top of the pyramid(satisfiers)aiming at time well spent.The challenge in planning and design of public transport services is to find the most efficient(set of)design choices.Depending on the context this might either mean focusing on the top or on the bottom of the pyramid.We found that influencing and enhancing the qualities of the satisfiers is far more important than traditional studies showed us.For stations,regression analyses show that dissatisfiers are responsible for explaining almost half of the total score of the station and satisfiers are responsible for the other half of the scores passengers give for the station.We still have to put a lot of energy in getting the basics right,starting in the planning phase,but then we are not allowed to lean back.We have to keep investing in qualities like ambience,comfort and experience which makes the customers truly happy at the end of the day. 展开更多

为研究高铁运行对道路运输旅客选择概率变换特性,建立了基于效用理论的道路运输旅客乘车概率计算模型并提出了求解计算方法,模型描述了旅客对于道路运输及高铁衔接道路运输两类出行链的选择概率.通过某市部分出行群体调查数据为例获得... 为研究高铁运行对道路运输旅客选择概率变换特性,建立了基于效用理论的道路运输旅客乘车概率计算模型并提出了求解计算方法,模型描述了旅客对于道路运输及高铁衔接道路运输两类出行链的选择概率.通过某市部分出行群体调查数据为例获得模型参数,根据模型绘制了出行总里程、高铁里程占比两个参数变化下乘客选择概率曲线,分析了出行链部分参数变化时与双因素共同变化时旅客选择行为的变化趋势;研究了道路运输票价下降和舒适性提升情况下,对于选择概率影响.结果发现:出行总里程、高铁里程对于出行链选择概率影响明显.随着出行链中高铁占比的增加,旅客选择高铁出行的比例逐渐增加;随着路线长度的增加,选择高铁出行的比例逐渐下降.道路运输票价折扣对于在高铁在出行链中占比较大时对于选择概率的影响并不明显,而舒适性提高对于概率的影响作用较为明显.上述结果反映了道路运输、高铁运输之间的竞争关系,对于高铁运行影响下道路运输组织测量有借鉴作用. 展开更多

Recently,the LCCs(low cost carriers)using ICN(Incheon International Airport)as a hub have increased their international routes.In addition,foreign nationality airlines,including Middle Eastern carriers,have gradually increased their operations at ICN.This growth in carrier services has resulted in a more competitive market environment,and reasonable resource assignment has become an important issue for airport operators.Moreover,the airport will open a new terminal—T2(terminal 2)in early 2018,and carriers will need to adjust their operations reflecting the utilization of newly assigned facilities.Motivated by this change,we investigate the differentiation of airport service perception as well as airline choice behavior by passenger groups at ICN.This paper employs a MNL(multinomial logit)model as well as a SEM(structural equation model).The results indicate that airline gate allocation is a significantly important value for passengers in terms of airport service perception and choice behavior.Passenger perception and choice behavior differ according to the selected carrier.This study concludes that it is significantly important to consider the characteristics of passenger perception and choice behavior to improve airport operational efficiency,particularly with respect to carrier facility assignment. 展开更多

北京市地铁车厢内PM2.5污染情况及通勤人员的相关认知

[目的]调查北京市地铁车厢内PM2.5污染状况,并与室外环境中PM2.5浓度比较;了解北京市地铁通勤人员对地铁内空气污染的认知及防护情况。[方法]于2016年10月—2017年4月选取北京市10条地铁线路,每周调查一次,在周五晚高峰时段(16:30—20:30)测量地铁车厢内PM2.5浓度(春节假期除外),并与对应时间段室外环境的PM2.5浓度进行对比。使用问卷调查地铁通勤人员对地铁内和室外空气污染的认知及防护行为。[结果]10条线路的地铁车厢内PM32.5浓度中位数为133μg/m,明显高于室外环境PM2.5浓度中位数(61μg/m^3),差异具有统计学意义(P〈0.001)。共计调查618人,仅128名(20.7%)调查对象能正确认知地铁内比室外空气污染更严重。449名(72.7%)调查对象会使用口罩进行空气污染防护,其中仅96人(21.4%)会在雾霾天时在地铁内佩戴口罩。对地铁空气污染状况认知不同者,佩戴口罩的频率存在差异(P=0.008)。认为室外空气污染更严重的调查对象在地铁内从不佩戴口罩的比例(136/340,40.0%)明显高于认为地铁内空气污染更严重的调查对象(19/94,20.2%)。[结论]北京市晚高峰时段地铁车厢内的PM2.5浓度总体高于室外环境,而多数地铁通勤人员对此缺乏正确认知,在地铁内佩戴口罩比例偏低,相关防护意识有待加强。 展开更多

The study set out to determine the optimum architecture of a robotic arm link based on weight and payload and perform vibrational and stress analyses on the resultant shape.Findings showed the effectiveness of topology optimization in preliminary stages of structural design.The subsequent linear static analyses confirmed the degree of safety of the robotic arm links.It was also shown that that preload in the actuator wire incorporated in the links can be manipulated to tune the natural frequency of the structure.These findings contribute to the ongoing design of the entire robotic first aid system by providing data,which will be used for selection of components and inspire confidence to proceed with manufacture. 展开更多
