Icing of wires is a product of rain, fog, and freezing rain, and is a common meteorological disaster in winter in Guizhou Province of China. It is extremely harmful to facilities such as power transmission and communication lines, and has caused huge economic loss up to 48.9566 billion dollars a year. Based on the meteorological records of Guizhou from 1967, we analyze the meteorological characteristics during the icing of wires, and obtain the temperature, wind speed and direction conditions of the ice accident. The icing of wires is carried out by supercooling raindrops, freezing of the clouds, freezing and spreading on the wires. Different types of supercooled raindrops and cloud freezing and freezing processes will form different types of ice accretion;wind direction and wind speed will affect the growth of ice accretion by changing the speed of sub-cooling raindrops and cloud falling. The weight of rain-type ice accretion is between 24 and 152 g, and the weight of smog-type ice is between 40 - 76 g. The average ice density of these two places can be calculated to be 0.2 - 0.5 g/cm3. The longer the icing of wires, the higher the ice disaster rate. 展开更多

Severe disasters caused by extreme precipitation events have attracted more and more attention. The relationship between climate change and extreme precipitation has become the hottest scientific frontier issue. The study of daily torrential rain observations from 659 meteorological stations in China from 1951 to 2010 shows that rapid urbanization may have triggered a significant increase in heavy rains in China. It reached following conclusions: China’s interdecadal heavy rainfall amount,rainy days and rain intensity increased significantly,with an increase of 68. 71%,60. 15% and 11. 52%,respectively. The increase in the number of stations was 84. 22%,84. 22% and 54. 48%,respectively. It showed time change of " rapid-slow-rapid increase" and spatial change of gradual increase from southeastern coast to central China,southwest,north China,and northeastern regions. Rapid urbanization factors,including secondary industry output( GDP2),urban population ratio( UP),annual average haze days( HD),are likely to be the main causes of the increase in heavy rains in China. Their explanations of the variance of heavy rainfall amount( HRA),rainy day( RD) and rain intensity( RI) in China reached 61. 54%,58. 48% and 65. 54%,respectively,of which only the explanation of variance of heavy rainfall amount,rainy days and rain intensity was as high as 25. 93%,22. 98%and 26. 64%,respectively. However,explanation of variance of climatic factors including WPSH( West Pacific Subtropical High),ENSO( El Ni1 o-Southern Oscillation) AMO( Atlantic Interdecadal Oscillation),and AAO( Antarctic Oscillation) was only 24. 30%,26. 23%,and 21. 92%,respectively. Compared with the rapid urbanization forcing factor,the impact of these climatic factors was only one third of the former. The panel data of China’s county-level total population and annual average of visibility days were significantly correlated with China’s interdecadal heavy rainfall amount,rainy days and rain intensity. Below-Cloud Aerosol Scavenging by Different-Intensity Rains in Beijing City

Below-cloud aerosol scavenging process by precipitation is important for cleaning the polluted aerosols in the atmosphere, and is also a main process for acid rain formation. However, the related physical mechanism has not been well documented and clarified yet. In this paper, we investigated the below-cloud PM2.5(particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter being 2.5 μm or less) scavenging by different-intensity rains under polluted conditions characterized by high PM2.5 concentrations, based on in-situ measurements from March 2014 to July 2016 in Beijing city. It was found that relatively more intense rainfall events were more efficient in removing the polluted aerosols in the atmosphere. The mean PM2.5 scavenging ratio and its standard deviation(SD) were 5.1% ± 25.7%, 38.5% ± 29.0%,and 50.6% ± 21.2% for light, moderate, and heavy rain events, respectively. We further found that the key impact factors on below-cloud PM2.5 scavenging ratio for light rain events were rain duration and wind speed rather than raindrop size distribution. However, the impacts of rain duration and wind speed on scavenging ratio were not important for moderate and heavy rain events. To our knowledge, this is the first statistical result about the effects of rain intensity, rain duration, and raindrop size distribution on below-cloud scavenging in China. 展开更多

中国降雨侵蚀力的时空分布及重现期研究 预览

降雨侵蚀力是土壤侵蚀模型USLE的一个重要因子。基于中国中东部水蚀区18个气象站1961(1971)-2000年逐分钟降水数据和全国范围内774个气象站1961-2016年逐日降水数据,采用克里金插值方法,得到全国多年平均年、多年平均24个半月、不同重... 降雨侵蚀力是土壤侵蚀模型USLE的一个重要因子。基于中国中东部水蚀区18个气象站1961(1971)-2000年逐分钟降水数据和全国范围内774个气象站1961-2016年逐日降水数据,采用克里金插值方法,得到全国多年平均年、多年平均24个半月、不同重现期年和次侵蚀力空间分布特征,可满足USLE模型对侵蚀力因子相关参数输入的要求。交叉验证结果表明:以上所有指标的空间插值模型精度较好,模型有效系数NSE不低于0.74,偏差百分比PBIAS低于1%,均方根误差与观测值标准差的比值RSR小于等于0.51。侵蚀力年内变化曲线具有较好的区域相似性,使用K均值聚类分析方法将中国侵蚀力年内变化特征划分为4个区域,每个区域概化出一条侵蚀力年内变化曲线。 展开更多

The diurnal cycles of precipitation over northern China during summer in four strong rainfall years are examined using two-dimensional cloud-resolving modeling data. The diurnal signals are analyzed in terms of precipitation budget, fractional rainfall coverage and rain intensity over convective and stratiform rainfall area. The analysis of precipitation budget shows that the diurnal cycles of convective and stratiform precipitation mainly correspond respectively to those of water vapor convergence and transport of hydrometeor from convective rainfall area to stratiform rainfall area in 1964, 1994 and 1995, whereas they mainly correspond to those of water vapor convergence in 2013. The diurnal cycles of convective and stratiform precipitation are mainly associated with those of rain intensity in 1964, 1994 and 1995. In 2013, the diurnal cycle of stratiform precipitation is mainly related to that of fractional rainfall coverage over stratiform rainfall area. The multiple peaks of convective precipitation mainly correspond to the rain intensity maxima associated with strong water vapor convergence. 展开更多

The impact of weather on summer and winter exercise behaviors

Background: Outdoor exercise is an enjoyable way for individuals to improve fitness, but it is dependent on weather conditions. This study examines the association between weather conditions and outdoor exercise after adjustment for age, sex, race, and socioeconomic status.Methods: We used data representative of American adults from the University of Michigan/Thomson Reuters June 2013 surveys of consumers(core and supplement) to investigate self-reported exercise behavior in summer and winter. Multivariate multinomial logistic regression models estimated the odds of delayed or indoor exercise compared with outdoor exercise.Results: Of the 502 respondents, 16.3% did not regularly exercise outdoors(i.e., at least once a week), and many would delay exercise both in summer(51.8%) and winter(43.9%). Individuals listing rain as the predominant adverse weather condition had 3.33 times higher odds of exercising indoors(95% confidence interval(CI): 1.34-8.28) and 3.49 times higher odds of delaying exercise(95%CI: 1.69-7.21) compared with those mentioning heat as the predominant adverse condition. Individuals for whom ice or snow was an adverse winter weather condition were more likely to delay exercise(odds ratio(OR) = 3.34;95%CI: 1.19-9.36), compared with those concerned with cold.Conclusion: This study found that race, age, and education exacerbate the negative effects of adverse weather conditions on the decision to exercise outdoors. Accordingly, any recommendation for an individual to exercise outdoors should be combined with an evaluation of the individual’s outdoor environment along with strategies for the individual to continue exercising, indoors or outdoors, when adverse weather is present. 展开更多

The rainwater management, as an important means to improve the water environment in the brown-land transformation of the iron and steel industry, is bound to reshape the environment of the brown-land of the iron and steel industry and create a good ecological environment of the brown-land. Based on the analysis and comparison of the methods and techniques of the rainwater management, combined with the surface water transmission paths and the technical facilities in the iron and steel industry, this paper puts forward the landscape planning measures of the rainwater management from three aspects of the rainwater and architecture, the rainwater and roads, and the rainwater and iron and steel elements, and displays the application process of the rainwater management in the form of the landscape, so as to achieve the unity of the technology and arts. 展开更多

The moving path of southwest vortex and the mechanism of heavy rain in the north were studied in order to find out the forecasting point of the northern heavy rain,so as to improve the forecasting ability of the heavy rain disastrous weather.A large-scale heavy rain process in northern China from 18 to 21 July 2010 was diagnostically analyzed using meteorological conventional and intensified observation data and NCEP 1°× 1° reanalysis data.The result showed that the southwest vortex moved northeastward under the guidance of southwest airflow in the periphery of subtropical high,which was the direct influence system of the heavy rainfall.The heavy rainfall occurred on the east side of the symmetrical axis of the 700 hPa low vortex.The southwest jet provided abundant water vapor and potential instability energy for the occurrence of heavy rainfall.The changes of vorticity advection and temperature advection in the lower and middle troposphere were the leading causes of affecting the development and movement of the low vortex.The low vortex moved along the positive vorticity advection increasing region and the warm advection increasing region.The dry and cold air intruded into the low vortex from the middle layer,which promoted the generation and development of the unstable stratification of upper cold and lower warm,and provided unstable and triggering conditions for heavy rain.The water vapor transport from the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea was very abundant,and the water vapor flux was very high,reaching 30 g/(s·cm·hPa).It was the main reason for the maximum precipitation in Liaoning Province,which was the farthest from the southwest vortex source.The study deepened the understanding of the structural characteristics of the southwest vortex and revealed the dynamic mechanism of the northeast movement and development of the southwest vortex as well as the cause of rainstorm induced by interaction with other weather systems.It can provide some forecasting ideas and useful references for forecasting the movement 展开更多
