Background:Serum chitinase-3-like protein 1(CHI3L1)is a potential biomarker for fibrosis assessment.We aimed to evaluate serum CHI3L1 as a noninvasive diagnostic marker for chronic hepatitis B virusrelated fibrosis.Methods:Serum CHI3L1 levels were measured by ELISA in 134 chronic hepatitis B(CHB)patients.Significant fibrosis was defined as a liver stiffness>9.7 kPa.The performance of CHI3L1 was assessed and compared to that of other noninvasive tests by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis.Results:Serum CHI3L1 levels were significantly higher in CHB patients with significant hepatic fibrosis(≥F2)than in those without significant hepatic fibrosis(<F2)(56.5 ng/mL vs.81.9 ng/mL,P<0.001).In CHB patients,the specificity and sensitivity of CHI3L1 for predicting significant fibrosis were 75.6%and 59.1%,respectively,with a cut-off of 76.0 ng/mL and an area under the ROC curve of 0.728(95%CI:0.637–0.820).Conclusions:Serum CHI3L1 levels could be an effective new serological biomarker for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis.Moreover,CHI3L1 is feasible in monitoring disease progression. 展开更多

The current storm wave hazard assessment tends to rely on a statistical method using wave models and fewer historical data which do not consider the effects of tidal and storm surge.In this paper,the wave-current coupled model ADCIRC+SWAN was used to hindcast storm events in the last 30 years.We simulated storm wave on the basis of a large set of historical storms in the North-West Pacific Basin between 1985 and 2015 in Houshui Bay using the wave-current coupled model ADCIRC+SWAN to obtain the storm wave level maps.The results were used for the statistical analysis of the maximum significant wave heights in Houshui Bay and the behavior of wave associated with storm track.Comparisons made between observations and simulated results during typhoon Rammasun(2014)indicate agreement.In addition,results demonstrate that significant wave height in Houshui Bay is dominated by the storm wind velocity and the storm track.Two groups of synthetic storm tracks were designed to further investigate the worst case of typhoon scenarios.The storm wave analysis method developed for the Houshui Bay is significant in assisting government's decision-making in rational planning of deep sea net-cage culture.The method can be applied to other bays in the Hainan Island as well. 展开更多

Large-scale datasets are driving the rapid developments of deep convolutional neural networks for visual sentiment analysis.However,the annotation of large-scale datasets is expensive and time consuming.Instead,it iseasy to obtain weakly labeled web images from the Internet.However,noisy labels st.ill lead to seriously degraded performance when we use images directly from the web for training networks.To address this drawback,we propose an end-to-end weakly supervised learning network,which is robust to mislabeled web images.Specifically,the proposed attention module automatically eliminates the distraction of those samples with incorrect labels bv reducing their attention scores in the training process.On the other hand,the special-class activation map module is designed to stimulate the network by focusing on the significant regions from the samples with correct labels in a weakly supervised learning approach.Besides the process of feature learning,applying regularization to the classifier is considered to minimize the distance of those samples within the same class and maximize the distance between different class centroids.Quantitative and qualitative evaluations on well-and mislabeled web image datasets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the related methods. 展开更多

Although intensive research of the influence of ground motion duration on structural cumulative damage has been carried out, the influence of dynamic responses in underground tunnels remains a heated debate. This study attempts to highlight the importance of the ground motion duration effect on hydraulic tunnels subjected to deep-focus earthquakes. In the study, a set of 18 recorded accelerograms with a wide-range of durations were employed. A spectrally equivalent method serves to distinguish the effect of duration from other ground motion features, and then the seismic input model was simulated using SV-wave excitation based on a viscous-spring boundary, which was verified by the time-domain waves analysis method. The nonlinear analysis results demonstrate that the risk of collapse of the hydraulic tunnel is higher under long-duration ground motion than that of short-duration ground motion of the same seismic intensity. In a low intensity earthquake, the ground motion duration has little effect on the damage energy consumption of a hydraulic tunnel lining, but in a high intensity earthquake, dissipation of the damage energy and damage index of concrete shows a nonlinear growth trend accompanied by the increase of ground motion duration, which has a great influence on the deformation and stress of hydraulic tunnels, and correlation analysis shows that the correlation coefficient is greater than 0.8. Therefore, the duration of ground motion should be taken into consideration except for its intensity and frequency content in the design of hydraulic tunnel, and evaluation of seismic risk. 展开更多

Spatial function regionalization can provide the scientific groundwork for the regulation of land use and protection. This paper probes the system of evaluation indices and applies the methods of spatial analysis and classification clustering to the calculation of the ecologically significant value and economically significant value in each evaluation unit. After use of a classification matrix integrated by the two significant values, city space can be divided into four functional types, namely, feasible development area, moderate development area, moderate conservation area and prohibited exploiting area, and these are the basis for spatial development and control. 展开更多

Gastric cancer (GC) is a highly heterogeneons disease with multiple cellular types and poor prognosis. However, the cellular evolution and molecular basis of GC at the in dividual intra-tumor level has not bee n well dem on strated. We performed single-cell whole exome sequencing to detect somatic singlenucleotide variants (SNVs) and significantly mutated genes (SMGs) among 34 tumor cells and 9 normal cells from a patient w让h GC. The Complete Prediction for Protein Conformation (CPPC) approach directly predicting the folding con formation of the protein 3D structure with Protein Folding Shape Code, combined with functional experiments were used to confirm the characterization of mutated SMGs in GC cells. We ide ntified 201 somatic SNVs, in eluding 117 non-sy nony mous mutations in GC cells. Further analysis idenrified 24 significant mutated genes (SMGs) in single cells, for which a single amino acid change might affect protein conforniation. Among them, two genes (CDC27 and FLG) that were mutated only in single cells but not in the corresponding tumor tissue, were recurrently present in another GC tissue cohort, and may play a potential role to promote carcinogenesis, as confirmed by functional characterization. Our findings showed a mutational landscape of GC at intra-tumor level for the first time and provided opportunities for understanding the heterogeneity and individualized target therapy for this disease. 展开更多

The first digit law, also known as Benford’s law or the significant digit law, is an empirical phenomenon that the leading digit of numbers from real world sources favors small ones in a form log(1 + 1/d), where d= 1, 2,..., 9.Such a law has been elusive for over 100 years because it has been obscure whether this law is due to the logical consequence of the number system or some mysterious mechanism of nature. We provide a simple and elegant proof of this law from the application of the Laplace transform, which is an important tool of mathematical methods in physics. It is revealed that the first digit law originates from the basic property of the number system, thus it should be attributed as a basic mathematical knowledge for wide applications. 展开更多

为了研究高应力下粗砂与结构接触面的剪切破碎影响因素,采用改装后的RMT-150B试验系统的直剪试验仪进行接触面直剪试验,对高法向应力作用下含水率为0%,8%,16%,24%的粗砂与具有4种不同粗糙度、强度混凝土基底的接触面直剪试验结果进行了... 为了研究高应力下粗砂与结构接触面的剪切破碎影响因素,采用改装后的RMT-150B试验系统的直剪试验仪进行接触面直剪试验,对高法向应力作用下含水率为0%,8%,16%,24%的粗砂与具有4种不同粗糙度、强度混凝土基底的接触面直剪试验结果进行了分析,结果表明:基底硬度增大,基底硬度与相对破碎率关系曲线趋于下降趋势,相对破碎率减小;相对破碎率随着含水率增加而增加,随粗糙度的增加破碎量减小;法向应力对颗粒破碎影响明显,相对破碎率的增大速率也表现出随法向应力增大而增大的趋势。保持含水率不变,法向应力与颗粒破碎曲线规律性较好;保持基底硬度和接触面粗糙度不变,法向应力与颗粒破碎关系较为离散,总体保持颗粒破碎随法向应力增加而增加。进行方差分析表明:接触面粗糙度对粗砂-混凝土结构接触面剪切破碎的影响较显著;法向应力、基底硬度与含水率对结构接触面剪切颗粒破碎的影响均特别显著,显著性从大到小依次为:砂的含水率、基底硬度、法向应力、接触面粗糙度。针对不同试验所得到的法向应力对颗粒相对破碎率影响规律进行讨论,认为:从零法向应力开始,随法向应力的增大相对破碎率增加速率增大,当剪切应力达到集中段颗粒抗剪破强度后,相对破碎率增加速率随法向应力增加而减小。 展开更多

BACKGROUND The quantitative faecal immunochemical test for haemoglobin (FIT) has been revealed to be highly accurate for colorectal cancer (CRC) detection not only in a screening setting, but also in the assessment of patients presenting lower bowel symptoms. Therefore, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has recommended the adoption of FIT in primary care to guide referral for suspected CRC in low-risk symptomatic patients using a 10 μg Hb/g faeces threshold. Nevertheless, it is unknown whether FIT′s accuracy remains stable throughout the broad spectrum of possible symptoms. AIM To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess FIT accuracy for CRC detection in different clinical settings. METHODS A systematic literature search was performed using MEDLINE and EMBASE databases from inception to May 2018 to conduct a meta-analysis of prospective studies including symptomatic patients that evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of quantitative FIT for CRC detection. Studies were classified on the basis of brand, threshold of faecal haemoglobin concentration for a positive test result, percentage of reported symptoms (solely symptomatic, mixed cohorts) and CRC prevalence (< 2.5%,≥ 2.5%) to limit heterogeneity and perform subgroup analysis to assess the influence of clinical spectrum on FIT′s accuracy to detect CRC. RESULTS Fifteen cohorts including 13073 patients (CRC prevalence 0.4% to 16.8%) were identified. Pooled estimates of sensitivity for studies using OC-Sensor at 10 μg Hb/g faeces threshold (n = 10400) was 89.6%[95% confidence interval (CI): 82.7% to 94.0%). However, pooled estimates of sensitivity for studies formed solely by symptomatic patients (n = 4035) and mixed cohorts (n = 6365) were 94.1%(95%CI: 90.0% to 96.6%) and 85.5%(95%CI: 76.5% to 91.4%) respectively (P < 0.01), while there were no statistically significant differences between pooled sensitivity of studies with CRC prevalence < 2.5%(84.9%, 95%CI: 73.4% to 92.0%) and ≥ 2.5%(91.7%, 95%CI: 83.3% to 96.1%)(P = 0.25 展开更多

Wave energy resource assessment and trends around Indonesian’s ocean has been carried out by means of analyzing satellite observations. Wave energy flux or wave power can be approximated using parameterized sea states derived from satellite data. Unfortunately, only some surface parameters can be measured from remote sensing satellites, for example for ocean surface waves: significant wave height. Others, like peak wave period and energy period are not available, but can instead be estimated using empirical models. The results have been assessed by meteorological season. The assessment shows clearly where and when the wave power resource is promising around Indonesian’s ocean. The most striking result was found from June to August, in which about 30–40 kW/m(the 90 th percentile: 40–60 kW/m, the 99th percentile: 50–70 kW/m) wave power energy on average has been found around south of the Java Island. The significant trends of wave energy at the 95% level have also been studied and it is found that the trends only occurred for the extreme cases, which is the 99th percentile(i.e.,highest 1%). Wave power energy could increase up to 150 W/m per year. The significant wave heights and wave power have been compared with the results obtained from global wave model hindcast carried out by wave model WAVEWATCH III. When investigating the long-term variation of wave characteristics as associated with storm surges in the Bohai Sea,the Simulating Waves Nearshore(SWAN)model and Advanced CIRCulation(ADCIRC)model were coupled to simulate 32 storm surges between 1985 and 2014.This simulation was validated by reproducing three actual wave processes,showing that the simulated significant wave height(SWH)and mean wave period agreed well with the actual measurements.In addition,the long-term variations in SWH,pattems in SWH extremes along the Bohai Sea coast,the 100-year retum period SWH extreme distribution,and waves conditional probability distribution were calculated and analyzed.We find that the trend of SWH extremes in most of the coastal stations was negative,among which the largest trend was-0.03 m/a in the western part of Liaodong Bay.From the 100-year return period of the SWH distribution calculated in the Gumbel method,we find that the SWH extremes associated with storm surges decreased gradually from the center of the Bohai Sea to the coast.In addition,the joint probability of wave and surge for the entire Bohai Sea in 100-year return period was determined by the Gumbel logistic method.We therefore,assuming a minimum surge of one meter across the entire Bohai Sea,obtained the spatial SWH distribution.The conclusions of this study are significant for offshore and coastal engineering design. 展开更多

The Faculty of Law,among others,has the primary purpose of teaching and training law students to be lawyers and advocates of the voiceless.However,recent developments have made teaching of some significant yet sensitive topics,such as abortion rape,defilement,and other sexual offenses very difficult.Some students find the teaching of such topics at the Law Faculty unpleasant.Those affected by the teaching of such topics may either be survivor of a sexual offence or students who for socio-cultural beliefs and principles may also find such topics unpleasant.This has really influenced the teaching of sensitive issues at the various Law Faculties across the globe with Ghana not being an exception.This paper focuses on the conflict between the decisions of the Supreme Court of Ghana where the Court established that for the purpose of justice,words used in sexual offenses must be brutally frank,whiles the social cultural influence position of these topics argues for the use of euphemisms since it is a taboo and considered immoral to identify sexual organs by their names.The paper endeavors to explain why the teaching of these sensitive topics in the 21st century is quite a challenge.In Ghana,these topics form part of the content of Criminal Law,a mandatory course needed for pursuing professional legal studies.For this reason,it is not a question of whether or not it should be taught in the Law Faculty but how it should be taught.The paper proposes values and means that can be essential,and when applied to the teaching of rape and sexual offenses,it will mitigate and address the unpleasant nature of the topics and rather encourage the students to participate in the teaching and discussion of these topics.It concludes by outlining the need for student lawyers having the knowledge in these topics and its impact on society. 展开更多

The main objective of this paper is to propose a newly developed ocean Significant Wave Height (SWH) retrieval method from Envisat Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) imagery. A series of wave mode imagery from January, April and May of 2011 are collocated with ERA-Interim reanalysis SWH data. Based on the matched datasets, a simplified empirical relationship between 22 types of SAR imagery parameters and SWH products is developed with the Genetic Algorithms Partial Least-Squares (GA-PLS) model. Two major features of the backscattering coefficient σ0 and the frequency parameter S10 are chosen as the optimal training feature subset of SWH retrieval by using cross validation. In addition, we also present a comparison of the retrieval results of the simplified empirical relationship with the collocated ERA-Interim data. The results show that the assessment index of the correlation coefficient, the bias, the root-mean-square error of cross validation (RMSECV) and the scattering index (SI) are 0.78, 0.07 m, 0.76 m and 0.5, respectively. In addition, the comparison of the retrieved SWH data between our simplifying model and the Jason-2 radar altimeter data is proposed in our study. Moreover, we also make a comparison of the retrieval of SWH data between our developed model and the well- known CWAVE_ENV model. The results show that satisfying retrieval results are acquired in the low-moderate sea state, but major bias appears in the high sea state, especially for SWH>5 m. 展开更多
