This study investigated the level of natural radioactivity and radiological risks of 40 different ceramic tiles through gamma-ray spectroscopy using a high-purity germanium detector. The calculated activity concentrations were evaluated to determine their potential radiological risks to human health. Furthermore, the activity concentrations were subjected to the RESRAD-BUILD computer code to assess the effect of ventilation rate, dweller position, and room size and direction on the total effective dose (TED). The simulated TED received by a receptor when changing the ventilation rate in a room ranged from 0.26±0.01 to 0.61±0.01 mSv/y;however, the percentage variations in the TED due to dweller position and room size are 34,31, and 35% and 33,27, and 40% for the x-, y-, and z-directions, respectively. The overall TED received by the dweller based on room size and direction is 0.75 mSv/ y. The calculated radiological risk parameters were all below the recommended maximum limit. However, the TED received by the dweller is significantly affected by the directions of the measurement, position, room size, and ventilation. Therefore, estimating the TED from one direction would underestimate the total dose received by the dweller. 展开更多

The firing of ceramic ware in chamber furnaces is a transient multiphysical process,including turbulence combustion and fluid flow in the gas space,convective and radiation heat transfer from the flue gases to the furnace walls and ceramic ware,surface to surface radiation between the solid surfaces and conduction heat transfer in combination with endothermic or exothermic processes in the ceramic body.Models and conceptions for numerical analysis of that conjugate heat transfer(CHT)in such thermal aggregates are developed.They are validated on the base of information,obtained by in situ measurements at a furnace for firing of technical ceramic.Non-uniform thermal and fluid flow fields in the furnace space that cause problems in the surrounding walls and wastes at the ceramic ware are ascertained in it.An impossibility to improve the furnace operation at the existing construction and combustion installation is established.A variant for reconstruction of the furnace is investigated numerically.It includes changes of the number,power and topology of the burners and different arrangement of the ceramic ware in the furnace space.Uniform temperature fields and reduction of the specific fuel consumption at the suggested configuration of the thermal aggregate are established. 展开更多

Microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V-5% hydroxyapatite composite fabricated using electron beam powder bed fusion

A novel, Ti-6A1-4V (Ti64)/Hydroxyapatite (HA at 5% by weight concentration) metal/ceramic composite has been fabricated using electron beam powder bed fusion (EPBF) additive manufacturing (AM): specifically, the commercial electron beam melting (EBMR) process. In addition to solid Ti64 and Ti64/5% HA samples, four different unit cell (model) open-cellular mesh structures for the Ti64/5% HA composite were fabricated having densities ranging from 0.68 to 1.12g/cm^3, and corresponding Young's moduli ranging from 2.9 to 8.0 GPa, and compressive strengths ranging from -3 to 11 MPa. The solid Ti64/5%HA composite exhibited an optimal tensile strength of 123 MPa, and elongation of 5.5% in contrast to a maximum compressive strength of 875 MPa. Both the solid composite and mesh samples deformed primarily by brittle deformation, with the mesh samples exhibiting erratic, brittle crushing. Solid, EPBF-fabricated Ti64 samples had a Vickers microindentation hardness of 4.1 GPa while the Ti64/5%HA solid composite exhibited a Vickers microindentation hardness of 6.8 GPa. The lowest density Ti64/5%HA composite mesh strut sections had a Vickers microindentation hardness of 7.1 GPa. Optical metallography (OM) and seanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis showed the HA dispersoids to be highly segregated along domain or grain boundaries, but homogeneously distributed along alpha (hcp) platelet boundaries within these domains in the Ti64 matrix for both the solid and mesh composites. The alpha platelet width varied from -5μm in the EPBF-fabricated Ti64 to -1.1μm for the Ti64/5%HA mesh strut. The precursor HA powder diameter averaged 5μm, in contrast to the dispersed HA particle diameters in the Ti64/5%HA composite which averaged 0.5μm. This work highlights the use of EPBF AM as a novel process for fabrication of a true composite structure, consisting of a Ti64 matrix and interspersed and exposed HA domains, which to the authors knowledge has not been reported before. The influence of Er2 O3 addition on the phase evolution and mechanical properties of sintered(1600 ℃,4 h) ZTA(yttria stabilized zirconia toughened alumina)-TiO2 composites was investigated. The SEM and XRD results reveal the formation of a new erbium zirconium oxide,Zr3 Er4 O12,with a granulate morphology when Er2 O3 content is higher than 1 wt%. The grain sizes of both Al2 O3 and yttria-stabilized zirconia phases decrease with an increase in the Er2 O3 content. The relative density, Vickers hardness and fracture toughness of the composites are found to be strongly dependent on their grain sizes, relative densities and the formation of the Zr3 Er4 O12 secondary phases. The composite with 5 wt% Er2 O3 shows the highest relative density(99.93%), Vickers hardness(1752 HV) and fracture toughness(7.92 MPa·m1/2). 展开更多

The ceramic setting binders obtained by means of the raw mix mechano-chemical processing(mechanical dispersion and chemical interaction processes combination), used for bonding refractory concretes, become more available with a subsequent increased interest in their properties because they develop initial strength during a heat up of the units within 8-10 h, in contrast to 24 h after placement for high Al2O3 cements(HAC). This strength development enables high temperature processing units to be relined with minimum turnaround time, thus providing a favored cost/performance ratio. The present paper identifies the predominant phosphate phases responsible for developing good mechanical-strength properties of zirconia and alumina concretes bonded with mechano-chemical binders. It sets out the colloid and crystalline phases resulted from interphase interaction that provide the basis for high concentrated bonding suspensions(HCBS) technology useful to the refractory industry. 展开更多

In order to improve the compressive strength of xonotlite, the pretreated quartz powder, slaked CaO, additive, deionized water(water-solid ratio of 30) were placed in a magnetically stirred autoclave, and the corresponding products were obtained after incubating at 220 ℃ for 0, 1, 3 and 6 h, respectively to explore the synthetic process of xonotlite. In the prepared xonotlite powder, 0, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%(by mass, the same hereinafter) of pre-treated ceramic staple fibers were added, and two sets of specimen with the specifications of φ50 mm×35 mm were molded by pressed filtration.One set of specimens were not sintered, and the other group was fired at 1 000 ℃ for 2 h to explore the effect of ceramic fiber addition on the compressive strength before and after sintering of xonotlite. The results show that C-S-H gel is first synthesized in the synthesis of xonotlite, and then the C-S-H gel is transformed to form tobermlite, at last tobermlite fully reacts to produce xonotlite. The addition of ceramic fiber enhances the compressive strength of the xonotlite before and after sintering. When the 15% ceramic fiber is added, the compressive strength is the highest. The specimens before and after the high temperature firing contain xonotlite phase and calcium silicate phase, respectively, and the compressive strength of the fired specimens is higher than that of the green ones. 展开更多

Mixed regulation model of ceramic particles with molten high-chromium iron KmTBCr26

Particle reinforced metal matrix composites have many problems such as complicated preparation process, high production costs, weak interface bonding between the ceramic and metal matrix, uneven distribution of ceramic particles and so on. To solve these problems, the method of "shoot mixing + pressure compositing"(SM-PC) and a mixed regulation model of ceramic particles with molten steel were proposed. In the shoot mixing process, the special designed die casting equipment was used to make the particles with the molten metal mixed in the runner at a certain ejection speed(150 mm·s^-1). After the mixture is filled with the mold, the pressure is maintained until the end of solidification. In order to optimize this method to obtain the more uniform particle distribution, the parameters(ejection speed, preheating temperature of particles, the shape and size of runner) in the model were selected for sample preparation. Taking the distribution index of particles as the evaluation criterion, it is concluded that the uniform distribution of particles can be promoted with the increase of ejection velocity, the increase of particle preheating temperature, and the small change of gate size. When the preheating temperature of particles was 1,100 °C, and the shape of the runner was trumpet, the optimal particle distribution composite parts was obtained. Meanwhile, the particles and the matrix achieved strong interface bonding-"Class I interface " under the pressure compositing, even though they’re non-wetting. 展开更多
