以邢福义先生的“大三角”理论为指导,从语表、语里、语值三个方面,对“V+不过+NP”句式进行探究。从语表来看,这一结构在整体上是一个动宾结构,这个结构中的动词以单音节动词为主。“N/NP”的不同会影响“V”的语义特征,从“N”的类型... 以邢福义先生的“大三角”理论为指导,从语表、语里、语值三个方面,对“V+不过+NP”句式进行探究。从语表来看,这一结构在整体上是一个动宾结构,这个结构中的动词以单音节动词为主。“N/NP”的不同会影响“V”的语义特征,从“N”的类型划分,“V”主要分为自主性动词和非自主性动词。从语里来看,“V”与“N”的关系主要有三种:“V”与“N”可以直接搭配;句子补充完整后,“V”与“N”可以搭配;“V”与“N”无法搭配。这主要与“V+不过+NP”中的省略以及V的虚化有关。从语值来看,由于“V+不过+NP”常常发生省略,所以使表达更为简练,有以简驭繁的功能。 展开更多

During the last three decades, attitudes have played a major role in second/foreign language learning research. Scholars have found that a more positive attitude towards the target language improves second/foreign language learning. In order to contribute to this area of research, this study focuses on Chilean EFL learners with different proficiency levels (i.e., beginner, intermediate, and advanced) and their attitudes toward learning English, the English language itself, and the L2 community. By gathering data through a questionnaire and analysing it using SPSS, significant differences were found among the learners' groups, and their attitudes toward English. These findings will be discussed further in this study together with previous research. 展开更多

Positive psychology has boosted interest in the positive as well as the negative emotions that Foreign Language learners experience. The present study examines whether -and to what extent -foreign language enjoyment (FLE) and FL classroom anxiety (FLCA) are linked to a range of learner-internal variables and teacher/classroom-specific variables within one specific educational context. Participants were 189 British high school students learning various FLs. Levels of FLE were linked to higher scores on attitudes towards the FL, the FL teacher, FL use in class, proportion of time spent on speaking, relative standing and stage of development. Lower levels FLCA were linked to higher scores on attitudes towards the FL, relative standing and stage of development. FLCA thus seems less related to teacher and teacher practices than FLE. The pedagogical implication is that teachers should strive to boost FLE rather than worry too much about students' FLCA. 展开更多

This study investigated Chinese students’ intercultural competence and linguistic growth during a six-week study abroad program. The students and their professor participated in pre- and post-tests covering written and oral language competency as well as intercultural competence. The Global Scale of English assessed student language development to determine linguistic growth and the Assessment of Intercultural Competence of Chinese College Students (AIC-CCS) was used to determine student growth of intercultural competence skills, specifically related to cultural knowledge, skills, attitudes, and awareness as a result of their experiences in a non-Western context. Results indicated that students experienced a change in the salience of intercultural knowledge themes over their period abroad, as well as improved their individual language abilities. This study provides suggestions for future programming focused on the development of Chinese student intercultural competencies during short-term study abroad experiences in Western university environments. 展开更多

This paper recounts the process by which a severely brain-damaged adult student,after a terrible car accident,taught herself to read and write Ancient Greek,and in so doing,improved her ability to read and write in Greek.Initially,Evangelia’s reading and writing were very slow and difficult;memory and word finding challenges were her constant companions.Numerous studies by Greek and foreign scientists have shown that the Ancient Greek language,besides being alive,is also therapeutic,since it has the possibility to heal various dysfunctions and learning difficulties.After nine months,the recovery process was so good that Evangelia found herself writing and reading more fluently in Greek.This paper seeks to contribute to our knowledge of how the Ancient Greek language has the possibility to heal various and serious speech and language disorders. 展开更多

【Communicative Competence and Profi原 ciency】 Although Hymes蒺s original paper was not concerned with language teaching, but with providing a theoretical framework which could describe the knowledge and capabilities... 【Communicative Competence and Profi原 ciency】 Although Hymes蒺s original paper was not concerned with language teaching, but with providing a theoretical framework which could describe the knowledge and capabilities of the successful language user, his model has exerted a considerable influence on all aspects of language teaching and assessment, including overall approach (Widdowson, 1978;Brumfit and Johnson, 1979), syllabus design (Johnson, 1982), methodology (Johnson and Morrow, 1981) and testing (Spolsky, 1989;Bachman, 1990). CC is often conflated with proficiency and equated with the knowledge of the NATIVE SPEAKER presented as the final (if usually unattainable) goal of language learning (for further discussion see Davies, 1996). Models for LANGUAGE TESTING are often close to models of CC, and exhibit the same theoretical problems concerning taxonomies of components: a danger of an open-ended proliferation of terms, difficulty in distinguishing knowledge from ability for use, and a need to specify relations between one component and another. 展开更多
