The role of the ipsilaterally descending motor pathways in the recovery mechanisms after unilateral hemispheric damage is still poorly understood.Motor output reorganization was investigated in a 56-year-old male patient with acquired unilateral hemispheric atrophy due to Rasmussen encephalitis.In particular,the ipsilateral corticospinal pathways were explored using focal transcranial magnetic stimulation.In the first dorsal interosseous and wrist extensors muscles,the median amplitudes of the ipsilateral motor evoked potentials induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation in the patient were higher than those of 10 age-matched healthy control subjects.In the biceps brachii muscle,the median amplitudes of the ipsilateral motor evoked potentials were the second largest in the patient compared to the controls.This study demonstrated a reinforcement of ipsilateral motor projections from the unaffected motor cortex to the hemiparetic hand in a subject with acquired unihemispheric cortical damage. 展开更多

The effect of the CHAMP intervention on fundamental motor skills and outdoor physical activity in preschoolers

Purpose':Physical activity (PA) and fundamental motor skills are important components of current and future trajectories of health in young children. This study examined the effects of a 5-week motor skill intervention on preschoolers, motor skill competence and their PA behaviors while participating in the motor skill intervention or outdoor free play (recess). Methods'. A total of 102 preschoolers served as participants and were part of a motor skill intervention group (n = 64) or a control/outdoor free play group (n = 38). Children's motor skills were assessed before and after the intervention using the Test of Gross Motor Development-3rd edition. PA during the motor skill intervention and outdoor free play was assessed using accelerometers both immediately before the start (baseline, Week 0 or Week 1) and end (late. Week 5 or Week 6) of the intervention. Results: All children significantly improved their motor skills from baseline to late assessment (p < 0.05). Children in the motor skill intervention demonstrated greater rates of change (p < 0.001) and scored higher on all motor skills at the late assessment compared with the control group (p < 0.001). There was no effect of group (control vs. intervention), but there was a significant effect of sex on children's PA during outdoor free play at baseline (p < 0.05). Similarly, there was no effect of group on PA during days with the movement program (intervention vs. outdoor free play) at either time point, but boys were more active than girls at the late assessment (p < 0.05). Last, children in the intervention engaged in more PA while participating in the intervention toward the end of the intervention than at the beginning. Conclusion'. The 5-week motor skill intervention was effective at improving preschoolers, motor skills and rates of change in motor skills were higher for children who completed the intervention compared with children in the control group. Spinal cord injury is associated with chronic sensorimotor deficits due to the interruption of ascending and descending tracts between the brain and spinal cord. Functional recovery after anatomically complete spinal cord injury is limited due to the lack of long-distance axonal regeneration of severed fibers in the adult central nervous system. Most spinal cord injuries in humans, however, are anatomically incomplete. Although restorative treatment options for spinal cord injury remain currently limited, research from experimental models of spinal cord injury have revealed a tremendous capability for both spontaneous and treatment-induced plasticity of the corticospinal system that supports functional recovery. We review recent advances in the understanding of corticospinal circuit plasticity after spinal cord injury and concentrate mainly on the hindlimb motor cortex, its corticospinal projections, and the role of spinal mechanisms that support locomotor recovery. First, we discuss plasticity that occurs at the level of motor cortex and the reorganization of cortical movement representations. Next, we explore downstream plasticity in corticospinal projections. We then review the role of spinal mechanisms in locomotor recovery. We conclude with a perspective on harnessing neuroplasticity with therapeutic interventions to promote functional recovery. 展开更多

The synapse is an incredibly specialized structure that allows for the coordinated communication of information from one neuron to another. When assembled into circuits, steady streams of excitatory and inhibitory synaptic activity shape neural outputs. At the organismal level, ensembles of neural networks underlie behavior, emotion and memory. Disorder or dysfunctions of synapses, a synaptopathy, may underlie a host of developmental and degenerative neurological conditions. There is a possibility that amyotrophic lateral sclerosis may be a result of a synaptopathy within the neuromotor system. To this end, particular attention has been trained on the excitatory glutamatergic synapses and their morphological proxy, the dendritic spine. The extensive detailing of these dysfunctions in vulnerable neuronal populations, including corticospinal neurons and motor neurons, has recently been the subject of original research in rodents and humans. If amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is indeed a synaptopathy, it is entirely consistent with other proposed pathogenic mechanisms - including glutamate excitotoxicity, accumulation of misfolded proteins and mitochondrial dysfunction at distal axon terminals (cortico-motor neuron and neuromuscular). Further, although the exact mechanism of disease spread from region to region is unknown, the synaptopathy hypothesis is consistent with emerging die-forward evidence and the prion-like propagation of misfolded protein aggregates to distant neuronal populations. Here in this mini-review, we focus on the timeline of synaptic observations in both cortical and spinal neurons from different rodent models, and provide a conceptual framework for assessing the synaptopathy hypothesis in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. 展开更多

Objective:Studies have shown that docosahexaenoic acid(DHA)has a beneficial effect in the treatment of spinal cord injury.A meta-analysis was used to study the effect of DHA on the neurological recovery in the rat spinal cord injury model,and the relationship between the recovery of motor function after spinal cord injury and the time and method of administration and the dose of DHA.Data source:Published studies on the effect of DHA on spinal cord injury animal models from seven databases were searched from their inception to January 2019,including PubMed,MEDLINE,EMBASE,the China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang,VIP,and SinoMed databases.The search terms included“spinal cord injury”“docosahexaenoic acid”,and“rats”.Data selection:Studies that evaluated the influence of DHA in rat models of spinal cord injury for locomotor functional recovery were included.The intervention group included any form of DHA treatment and the control group included treatment with normal saline,vehicle solution or no treatment.The Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory animal Experimentation’s risk of bias assessment tool was used for the quality assessment of the included studies.Literature inclusion,quality evaluation and data extraction were performed by two researchers.Meta-analysis was then conducted on all studies that met the inclusion criteria.Statistical analysis was performed on the data using RevMan 5.1.2.software.Outcome measures:The primary outcome measure was the score on the Basso,Beattie,and Bresnahan scale.Secondary outcome measures were the sloping plate test,balance beam test,stair test and grid exploration test.Results:A total of 12 related studies were included,3 of which were of higher quality and the remaining 9 were of lower quality.The highest mean Basso,Beattie,and Bresnahan scale score occurred at 42 days after DHA treatment in spinal cord injury rats.At 21 days after treatment,the mean difference in Basso,Beattie,Bresnahan scores between the DHA group and the control group was the most 展开更多

Such an effort appears nontrivial due to the fact that the full-model at best admits locally a non-triangular observable form(NTOF), and its analytical representation in the NTOF can not be obtained. This paper proposes an approximate high gain estimation algorithm, which enjoys a constructive design, ease of tuning, and improved speed estimation and tracking performance. Submersible electrical motor direct-drive progressing cavity pump (PCP) rodless lifting was studied to solve the traditional rod-drive pump problems, such as rod-tubing wearing, low efficiency and short running time. The theoretical researches and laboratory experiments of key tools such as submersible motor and the construction technology of lifting system were introduced. The field application and economic benefit were analyzed and compared with the traditional rod pumping unit. A new low speed and large torque permanent magnet synchronous motor was developed. This motor was used to drive PCP without gear reducer, which improved the reliability and feasibility. It can run at the speed from 50 to 500 r/min with stepless speed regulation, and it can perform high efficiency and large torque. Besides, other key supporting tools, such as motor protector and flex shaft, were developed. The submersible electrical motor direct- drive PCP technology can be used in a 139.7 mm (5.5 in) casing well, with daily output ranging from 5 to 50 m3. Until now, the technology has been deployed more than 100 wells. The field application results show that it eliminates the rod-tubing wearing and saves electric energy by more than 30% compared with the traditional rod pumping unit. And it also makes the oil produced in a safe and environmental friendly way. 展开更多

Motor Vehicle emission simulator(MOVES)model was localized by changing the base emission rates in MySQL database of the model,and using the actual measured data for private cars in Shenzhen City,China.The performances of localized MOVES model and non-localized MOVES model were evaluated by comparing the predicted emission factors to the measured ones.The results showed that by localization of the base emission rates,the prediction accuracy of the localized MOVES model for hydrocarbon(HC)and nitrogen oxides(NO x)was significantly improved.The accuracy of the localized MOVES model simulations in the Opmode increased by 86%,88%and 71%for HC,76%,42%and 72%for NO x on arterial roads,expressways and highways.For carbon monoxide(CO),however,the simulation performance based on the average velocity mode on expressways and highways became poor after localization,with the decrease of 28%and 8%respectively.Overall,by the localization of the base emission rates,the relative errors of the simulated emission factors of HC,CO and NO x of private cars were less than 37%. 展开更多

电梯设备逐渐老化等因素造成人身伤亡事故时有发生。本文设计基于MLX90621的温度采集系统,具有非接触、宽视域、可提取温度场特征信息等优异特性,用于辨识电梯设备故障的早期发现,从而预防事故的发生。
