Wind power production is uncertain.The imbalance between committed and delivered energy in pool markets leads to the increase of system costs,which must be incurred by defaulting producers,thereby decreasing their revenues.To avoid this situation,wind producers can submit their bids together with hydro resources.Then the mismatches between the predicted and supplied wind power can be used by hydro producers,turbining or pumping such differences when convenient.This study formulates the problem of hydro-wind production optimization in operation contexts of pool market.The problem is solved for a simple three-reservoir cascade case to discuss optimization results.The results show a depreciation in optimal revenues from hydro power when wind forecasting is uncertain.The depreciation is caused by an asymmetry in optimal revenues from positive and negative wind power mismatches.The problem of neutralizing the effect of forecasting uncertainty is subsequently formulated and solved for the three-reservoir case.The results are discussed to conclude the impacts of uncertainty on joint bidding in pool market contexts. 展开更多

This paper presents the recent research on the study of the strategies for the flexible operation of the thermal power plant to meet the requirement of load balance. The study aimed to investigate the feasibility of bringing the High Temperature Thermal Energy Storage(HTTES) to the thermal power plant steam-water cycle, to identify the suitable HTTES in the cold(hot) section of the reheating pipeline and to test the efficiency of the HTTES integration to increase the flexibility of peak shaving and energy efficiency via thermal power plant with HTTTES modelling and simulation. Thermoflex was adopted to perform the simulation and a 300 MW subcritical coal-fired power plant model was implemented onto the software platform. The simulation results show that it is feasible to extract steam from the steam turbine to charge the HTTES, and to discharge the stored thermal energy back to the power generation process, and to analyse the improved capability of the plant flexible operation with HTTES. Then the study was extended to analyse the effect of thermal energy temperature, the opening of the regulating valve, and the pipeline pressure loss aspects on thermal efficiency of the whole plant. The study is beneficial to achieve more economic operation of the thermal power plant with HTTES integration. It is concluded that the introduction of the HTTES can improve the consumption of wind power, and these ideas and methods for solving the energy consumption of the renewable energy and reducing the peak energy consumption are provided. 展开更多

Nowadays,internal combustion engine vehicles are considered as one of the major contributors to air pollution.To make transportation more environmentally friendly,plug-in electric vehicles(PEVs)have been proposed.However,with an increase in the number of PEVs,the drawbacks associated with the cost and size,as well as charging cables of batteries have arisen.To address these challenges,a novel technology named wireless charging system has been recently recommended.This technology rapidly evolves and becomes very attractive for charging operations of electric vehicles.Currently,wireless charging systems offer highly efficient power transfer over the distances ranging from several millimeters to several hundred millimeters.This paper is focused on analyzing electromagnetically coupled resonant wireless technique used for the charging of EVs.The resonant wireless charging system for EVs is modeled,simulated,and then examined by changing different key parameters to evaluate how transfer distance,load,and coil’s geometry,precisely number of coil’s turns,coil’s shape,and inter-turn distance,influence the efficiency of the charging process.The simulation results are analyzed and critical dimensions are discussed.It is revealed that a proper choice of the dimensions,inter-turn distance,and transfer distance between the coils can result in a significant improvement in charging efficiency.Furthermore,the influence of the transfer distance,frequency,load,as well as the number of the turns of the coil on the performance of wireless charging system is the main focus of this paper. 展开更多

Improving power distribution characteristics of space time block codes(STBCs),namely peak to average power ratio(PAPR),average to minimum power ratio(Ave/min),and probability of transmitting"zero"by antenna,makes easier their practical implementation.To this end,this study proposes to multiply full diversity STB C with a non-singular matrix in multiple input multiple output(MIMO)or multiple input single output(MISO)systems with linear or maximum likelihood(ML)receivers.It is proved that the obtained code achieves full diversity and the order of detection complexity does not change.The proposed method is applied to different types of STBCs.The bit error rate(BER)and power distribution characteristics of the new codes demonstrate the superiority of the introduced method.Further,lower and upper bounds on the BER of the obtained STBCs are derived for all receivers.The proposed method provides trade-off among PAPR,spectral efficiency,energy efficiency,and BER. 展开更多

The integration of network reconfiguration and distributed generation(DG)can enhance the performances of overall networks.Thus,proper sizing and siting of DG need to be determined,otherwise it will cause degradation in system performance.However,determining proper sizing and siting of DG together with network reconfiguration is a complex problem due to huge solution search space.This search space mostly contains non-radial network configurations.Eliminating these non-radial combinations during optimization process increases computational overhead and may end up at local optimal solution.To reduce the searching complexity,this paper considers the discretized network reconfiguration via dataset approach.Water cycle algorithm(WCA)is used to obtain the near optimal solution of network reconfiguration,and sizing and sitting of DG.In addition,the power factor of DG is also optimized to reduce the power loss.The proposed method is tested on an IEEE 33-bus network and an IEEE 69-bus network considering different scenarios to show the effectiveness of simultaneous approach considering variable power factor.The results show that the discretization of reconfiguration search space avoids that WCA to get trapped in local optima.The proposed method outperforms other technique such as harmony search algorithm(HSA),fireworks algorithm(FWA),Cuckoo search algorithm(CSA)and uniform voltage distribution based constructive algorithm(UVDA)and improves the solution quality of IEEE 33-bus network and 69-bus network by 29.20%and 27.88%,respectively. 展开更多

Increasing railway traffic and energy utilization issues prompt electrified railway systems to be more economical,efficient and sustainable.As regenerative braking energy in railway systems has huge potential for optimized utilization,a lot of research has been focusing on how to use the energy efficiently and gain sustainable benefits.The energy storage system is an alternative because it not only deals with regenerative braking energy but also smooths drastic fluctuation of load power profile and optimizes energy management.In this work,we propose a co-phase traction power supply system with super capacitor(CSS_SC)for the purpose of realizing the function of energy management and power quality management in electrified railways.Besides,the coordinated control strategy is presented to match four working modes,including traction,regenerative braking,peak shaving and valley filling.A corresponding simulation model is built in MATLAB/Simulink to verify the feasibility of the proposed system under dynamic working conditions.The results demonstrate that CSS_SC is flexible to deal with four different working conditions and can realize energy saving within the allowable voltage unbalance of 0.008%in simulation in contrast to 1.3%of the standard limit.With such a control strategy,the performance of super capacitor is controlled to comply with efficiency and safety constraints.Finally,a case study demonstrates the improvement in power fluctuation with the valley-to-peak ratio reduced by 20.3%and the daily load factor increased by 17.9%. 展开更多

Stability of the Barrett True-K formula for intraocular lens power calculation after SMILE in Chinese myopic eyes 认领

AIM: To compare the Barrett True-K formula with other formulas integrated in Lenstar 900 to predict intraocular lens(IOL) power after small-incision lenticule extraction(SMILE).METHODS: A theoretical prospective study was performed to predict the ratio of equivalent IOL power before and after SMILE using the SRK/T(Sanders, Retzlaff, Kraff/theoretical), Holladay 1, Haigis, and Barrett True-K formulas and compare the stability of their predictions. The study included 54 eyes(54 cases) with a manifest refraction spherical equivalent(MRSE) of-4.99±1.45 D. They were divided into two groups: 27 eyes with axial length of 24-26 mm in Group A, and 27 eyes with axial length >26 mm in Group B. All subjects enrolled in this study were examined with the Lenstar 900 before and 6 mo after SMILE including measurements of axial length, corneal curvature, and anterior chamber depth(ACD). RESULTS: The prediction of equivalent IOL power of the two groups was more stable for the Barrett True-K formula, especially in long axial length eyes(Group B). The respective percentages for the SRK/T, Holladay 1, Haigis, and Barrett True-K formulas were 7.4%, 7.4%, 85.19%, and 88.89% for a margin of error within 0.5 D;25.92%, 51.84%, 100%, and 100% for a margin of error within 1.0 D in Group A;33.33%, 40.74%, 44.44%, and 81.48% for a margin of error within 0.5 D;and 44.44%, 59.26%, 66.66%, and 92.59% for a margin of error within 1.0 D in Group B. The respective percentages for Barrett True-K formulas were 100% for a margin of error within 2.0 D in Group B.CONCLUSION: Theoretically, the Barrett True-K formula provides more stable predictions than other formulas for cataract eyes after SMILE. 展开更多

The maximum demand of power utilization is increasing exponentially from base load to peak load in day to day life.This power demand may be either industrial usage or household applications.To meet this high maximum power demand by the consumer,one of the options is the integration of renewable energy resources with conventional power generation methods.In the present scenario,wind energy system is one of the methods to generate power in connection with the conventional power systems.When the load on the conventional grid system increases,various bus voltages of the system tend to decrease,causing serious voltage drop or voltage instability within the system.In view of this,identification of weak buses within the system has become necessary.This paper presents the line indices method to identify these weak buses,so that some corrective action may be taken to compensate for this drop in voltage.An attempt has been made to compensate these drops in voltages by integration of renewable energy systems.The wind energy system at one of the bus in the test system is integrated and the performance of the system is verified by calculating the power flow(PF)using the power system analysis tool box(PSAT)and line indices of the integrated test system.The PF and load flow results are used to calculate line indices for the IEEE-14 bus test system which is simulated on PSAT. 展开更多

Recently,a weighted fractional Fourier transform(WFRFT)based hybrid carrier(HC)system has been proposed,which can converge single-carrier(SC)and multi-carrier(MC)systems.The cost and power dissipation of analog components often dominate in practical HC systems.Therefore,in this paper,we analyze the baseband HC signal characteristics,including average signal power,power spectral density(PSD),probability density function(PDF),peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR),and complementary cumulative distribution function(CCDF),using a continuous-time HC signal approximation method.Through theoretical analysis and simulation validation,it is proved that the approximation method does not change the average signal power,bandwidth and out-of-band emission(OOBE).The theoretical PDF expression of HC signal with the approximation method is then proposed.Furt her more,the PDF can also explain why the PAPR of baseband continuous-time HC signal is higher than that of discrete-time HC signal.The PAPR performance and the power amplifier(PA)efficiency of HC systems in different conditions are analyzed.Through the PDF analysis of HC signal envelope and the numerical computations of PAPR.it is shown that the approximation method can offer a precise characteristic description for HC signal,which can help to improve the system PAPR performance and the PA efficiency. 展开更多

We experimentally demonstrated optical wireless power transfer(OWPT)using a near-infrared laser diode(LD)as the optical power transmitter.We considered a photovoltaic(PV)cell and a photodiode(PD)as the optical power receivers.We investigated the characteristics of the LD,PD,and PV cell in order to determine the optimum operating condition from the viewpoint of transfer efficiency.We also experimentally demonstrated a whole system optimization process to maximize the DC-to-DC transfer efficiency of the OWPT.Our experimental results showed that the optimization process can improve the OWPT efficiency by up to 48%. 展开更多

The solar power conversion efficiency of a gallium indium phosphide(GaInP)/silicon(Si)tandem solar cell has been investigated by means of a physical device simulator considering both mechanically stacked and monolithic structures.In particular,to interconnect the bottom and top sub-cells of the monolithic tandem,a gallium arsenide(GaAs)-based tunnel-junction,i.e.GaAs(n+)/GaAs(p+),which assures a low electrical resistance and an optically low-loss connection,has been considered.The J–V characteristics of the single junction cells,monolithic tandem,and mechanically stacked structure have been calculated extracting the main photovoltaic parameters.An analysis of the tunnel-junction behaviour has been also developed.The mechanically stacked cell achieves an efficiency of 24.27%whereas the monolithic tandem reaches an efficiency of 31.11%under AM1.5 spectral conditions.External quantum efficiency simulations have evaluated the useful wavelength range.The results and discussion could be helpful in designing high efficiency monolithic multijunction GaInP/Si solar cells involving a thin GaAs(n+)/GaAs(p+)tunnel junction. 展开更多

A very highly efficient InGaAlAs/AlGaAs quantum-well structure was designed for 808 nm emission,and laser diode chips 390-μm-wide aperture and 2-mm-long cavity length were fabricated.Special pretreatment and passivation for the chip facets were performed to achieve improved reliability performance.The laser chips were p-side-down mounted on the AlN submount,and then tested at continuous wave(CW)operation with the heat-sink temperature setting to 25℃using a thermoelectric cooler(TEC).As high as 60.5%of the wall-plug efficiency(WPE)was achieved at the injection current of 11 A.The maximum output power of 30.1 W was obtained at 29.5 A when the TEC temperature was set to 12°C.Accelerated life-time test showed that the laser diodes had lifetimes of over 62111 h operating at rated power of 10 W. 展开更多

Rapidly increasing capacities,decreasing costs,and improvements in computational power,storage,and communication technologies have led to the development of many applications that carry increasingly large amounts of traffic on the global networking infrastructure.Smart devices lead to emerging technologies and play a vital role in rapid evolution.Smart devices have become a primary 24/7 need in today’s information technology world and include a wide range of supporting processing-intensive applications.Extensive use of many applications on smart devices results in increasing complexity of mobile software applications and consumption of resources at a massive level,including smart device battery power,processor,and RAM,and hinders their normal operation.Appropriate resource utilization and energy efficiency are fundamental considerations for smart devices because limited resources are sporadic and make it more difficult for users to complete their tasks.In this study we propose the model of mobile energy augmentation using cloud computing(MEACC),a new framework to address the challenges of massive power consumption and inefficient resource utilization in smart devices.MEACC efficiently filters the applications to be executed on a smart device or offloaded to the cloud.Moreover,MEACC efficiently calculates the total execution cost on both the mobile and cloud sides including communication costs for any application to be offloaded.In addition,resources are monitored before making the decision to offload the application.MEACC is a promising model for load balancing and power consumption reduction in emerging mobile computing environments. 展开更多
