The discovery of the Higgs boson with its mass around 125 GeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations marked the beginning of a new era in high energy physics.The Higgs boson will be the subject of extensive studies of the ongoing LHC program.At the same time,lepton collider based Higgs factories have been proposed as a possible next step beyond the LHC,with its main goal to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson and probe potential new physics associated with the Higgs boson.The Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC)is one of such proposed Higgs factories.The CEPC is an e^+e^- circular collider proposed by and to be hosted in China.Located in a tunnel of approximately 100 km in circumference,it will operate at a center-of-mass energy of 240 GeV as the Higgs factory.In this paper,we present the first estimates on the precision of the Higgs boson property measurements achievable at the CEPC and discuss implications of these measurements. 展开更多

In this paper we describe the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for studies related to accretion flows in the strong field gravity regime around both stellar-mass and supermassive black-holes. eXTP has the unique capability of using advanced “spectral-timing-polarimetry” techniques to analyze the rapid variations with three orthogonal diagnostics of the flow and its geometry, yielding unprecedented insight into the inner accreting regions, the effects of strong field gravity on the material within them and the powerful outflows which are driven by the accretion process. 展开更多

In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter;neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. Under development by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of theChinese Academy of Sciences, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s. 展开更多

A vortex is intuitively recognized as the rotational/swirling motion of fluids,but a rigorous and universally-accepted definition is still not available.Vorticity tube/filament has been regarded equivalent to a vortex since Helmholtz proposed the concepts of vorticity tube/filament in 1858 and the vorticity-based methods can be categorized as the first generation of vortex identification methods.During the last three decades,a lot of vortex identification methods,including 0,A,and Aci criteria,have been proposed to overcome the problems associated with the vorticity-based methods.Most of these criteria are based on the Cauchy-Stokes decomposition and/or eigenvalues of the velocity gradient tensor and can be considered as the second generation of vortex identification methods.Starting from 2014,the Vortex and Turbulence Research Team at the University of Texas at Arlington(the UTA team)focus on the development of a new generation of vortex identification methods.The first fruit of this effort,a new Omega(/2)vortex identification method,which defined a vortex as a connected region where the vorticity overtakes the deformation,was published in 2016.In 2017 and 2018,a Liutex(previously called Rortex)vector was proposed to provide a mathematical definition of the local rigid rotation part of the fluid motion,including both the local rotational axis and the rotational strength.Liutex/Rortex is a new physical quantity with scalar,vector and tensor forms exactly representing the local rigid rotation of fluids.Meanwhile,a decomposition of the vorticity to a rotational part namely Liutex/Rortex and an anti-symmetric shear part(RS decomposition)was introduced in 2018,and a universal decomposition of the velocity gradient tensor to a rotation part(7?)and a non-rotation part(NR、was also given in 2018 as a counterpart of the traditional Cauchy-Stokes decomposition.Later in early 2019,a Liutex/Rortex based Omega method called Omega-Liutex,which combines the respective advantages of both Liutex/Rortex and Omega methods,was dev 展开更多

The scalable growth of wafer-sized single-crystal graphene in an energy-efficient manner and compatible with wafer process is critical for the killer applications of graphene in high-performance electronics and optoelectronics. Here, ultrafast epitaxial growth of single-crystal graphene wafers is realized on singlecrystal Cu90Ni10(1 1 1) thin films fabricated by a tailored two-step magnetron sputtering and recrystallization process. The minor nickel(Ni) content greatly enhances the catalytic activity of Cu, rendering the growth of a 4 in. single-crystal monolayer graphene wafer in 10 min on Cu90Ni10(1 1 1), 50 folds faster than graphene growth on Cu(1 1 1). Through the carbon isotope labeling experiments, graphene growth on Cu90Ni10(1 1 1) is proved to be exclusively surface-reaction dominated, which is ascribed to the Cu surface enrichment in the Cu Ni alloy, as indicated by element in-depth profile. One of the best benefits of our protocol is the compatibility with wafer process and excellent scalability. A pilot-scale chemical vapor deposition(CVD) system is designed and built for the mass production of single-crystal graphene wafers, with productivity of 25 pieces in one process cycle. Furthermore, we demonstrate the application of single-crystal graphene in electrically controlled liquid-crystal microlens arrays(LCMLA), which exhibit highly tunable focal lengths near 2 mm under small driving voltages. By integration of the graphene based LCMLA and a CMOS sensor, a prototype camera is proposed that is available for simultaneous light-field and light intensity imaging. The single-crystal graphene wafers could hold great promising for highperformance electronics and optoelectronics that are compatible with wafer process. 展开更多

However, NVP suffers from poor cyclability and rate capability because of its intrinsically low electronic conductivity. Herein, we successfully syn thesized N-doped carb on-wrapped Na3V2(PO4)3 (NC@NVP) through the carb on izati on of polydopami ne, which is rich in nitrogen species. The strong adhesion properties of the polydopamine lead to effective and homogeneous wrapping of NVP particles, and it I is further turned into a con ductive N-doped carb on n etwork itself, providi ng facile diffusi on of electr ons and Na+ i ons duri ng battery operation. NC@NVP displays remarkable electrochemical performanee, even under harsh operating conditions, such as a high rate capability (discharge capacity of 70.88, 49.21 mA·h·g^-1 at 50 and 100 C), long-term cycling stability (capacity retention of 94.77% over 1,000 cycles at 20 C), and high-temperature cycling (capacity retention of 92.0% after 500 cycles at 60 ℃). 展开更多

A commercial solid oxide fuel cell with a Ni/YSZ anode was characterized under a pure methane atmosphere. The amount of deposited carbon increased with an increase in temperature but decreased when the temperature exceeded 700℃. The reactivity of carbon decreased with increasing deposition temperature. Filamentous carbon was deposited from 400 to 600℃, whereas flake carbon was deposited at 700 and 800℃. With increasing temperature, the intensity ratio of the D band over the sum of the G and D bands was constant at the beginning and then decreased with the transformation of the carbon morphology. The crystallite size increased from 2.9 to 13 nm with increasing temperature. The results also indicated that the structure of the deposited carbon was better ordered with increasing deposition temperature. In comparison with pure Ni powders, the interaction between the YSZ substrate and Ni particles could not only modify the carbon deposition kinetics but also reduce the temperature effect on the structure and reactivity variation of carbon. 展开更多

The fresh catalyst has a high dispersion of Co–Mo–S active phase and no Co9S8 is found. The pure H2 activated catalyst shows a higher intrinsic activity, especially the C2+OH selectivity for the higher alcohol synthesis compared to the one activated by 5% H2/N2 atmo-sphere. The reason is attributed to that the pure H2 activation more effectively suppresses the formation of Co9S8 and stabilizes the Co–Mo–S active phase during the reaction due to the formation of SH species. 展开更多

Bismuth tungstate(Bi2 WO6) has many intriguing properties and has been the focus of studies in a variety of fields, especially photocatalysis. However, its application in gas-sensing has been seldom reported.Here, we successfully synthesized assembled hierarchical Bi2 WO6 which consists of ultrathin nanosheets with crystalline-amorphous composite phase by a one-step hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoemission spectroscopy(XPS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) techniques were employed to characterize its composition, morphology, and microstructure. By taking advantage of its unique microstructure,phase composition, and large surface area, we show that the resulting Bi2 WO6 is capable of detecting ethanol gas with quick response(7 s) and recovery dynamic(14 s), extremely high sensitivity(Ra/Rg= 60.8@50 ppm ethanol) and selectivity. Additionally, it has excellent reproducibility and long-term stability(more than 50 d). The Bi2 WO6 outperform the existing Bi2 WO6-based and most of the other state-of-the-art sensing platforms. We not only provided one new member to the field of gas sensor,but also offered several strategies to reconstruct nanomaterials. 展开更多

Single-chamber sediment microbial fuel cells (SSMFCs) have received considerable attention nowadays because of their unique dual-functionality of power generation and enhancement of wastewater treatment performance.Thus,scaling up or upgrading SSMFCs for enhanced and efficient performance is a highly crucial task.Therefore,in order to achieve this goal,an innovative physical technique of using interface layers with four different pore sizes embedded in the middle of SSMFCs was utilized in this study. Experimental results showed that the performance of SSMFCs employing an interface layer was improved regardless of the pore size of the interface,material,compared to those without such layers.The use of an interface layer resulted in a positive and significant effect on the performance of SSMFCs because of the effective prevention of oxygen diffusion from the cathode to the anode.Nevertheless,when a smaller pore size interface was utilized,better power performance and COD degradation were observed.A maximum power density of 0.032mW/m^2 and COD degradation of 47.3% were obtained in the case of an interface pore size of 0.28μm.The findings in this study are of significance to promote the future practical application of SSMFCs in wastewater treatment plants. 展开更多

A versatile wet impregnation method was employed to conveniently and controllably deposit Fe2O3 nanoparticles on zeolites including commercial Y, mordenite and ZSM-5 with the similar framework Si/Al ratios and crystal sizes, respectively. The ultrafine Fe2O3 nanoparticles in size of 5 nm can be highly dispersed on zeolite Y matrix due to its much better wettability than ZSM-5 and mordenite. By using the obtained Fe2O3/zeolite composite as the heterogeneous Fenton-like catalysts, the degradation of phenol as a model reaction was systematically investigated, including the zeolite supports, particle size and dispersion of Fe2O3, and reaction conditions of H2O2 concentration, temperature, and pH value. The catalyst based on zeolite Y with Fe loading of 9% exhibited the best phenol degradation efficiency (> 90%)in neutral pH within 2 h. Its high catalytic activity in Fenton reaction can be attributed to the bifunctional properties of strong surface BrФnsted acidity and high reactivity of octahedral Fe3+ in the highlydispersed ultrafine Fe2O3 nanoparticles in size of 5 nm, which were the primary active centers to quickly decompose H2O2 into hydroxyl radicals. Since phenol degradation can be performed under mild conditions of ambient temperature (283-323 K) and a wide pH range (4.0-7.0), the catalysts can be easily recovered for recyclable use with stable degradation activity, which own the immense potential in deep treatment of organic pollutants in industrial wastewater. 展开更多

This study defines and assesses the selection ciiteria for suitable particulate materials to be used in an upflow bubbling fluidized bed (UBFB) or dense up-flow powder circulation system for solar energy capture and storage. The main criteria identified are based on the thermophysical and thermomechanical properties, attrition behavior, and the considerations of health and environmental hazards of the candidate powders. Finally, a cost comparison and tentative ranking of the different can didate powders is presented in addition to a weighted scoring. Significant scoring differences can be observed between the various materials. Olivine possesses the most favorable characteristics and appears to be the particulate material of choice for solid/gas suspension heat transfer fluids. 展开更多

Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction is a promising way to mitigate the urgent energy and environmental issues, but how to increase the selectivity for desired product among multiple competi ng reaction pathways remains a bottle neck. Here, we demonstrate that engineering the gas-liquid-solid contact interface on the electrode surface could tailor the selectivity of CO2 reducti on and meanwhile suppress H2 production through regulated reacti on kin etics. Specifically, polytetrafl uoroethyle ne (PTFE) was utilized to modify a Cu nano array electrode as an example, which is able to cha nge the electrode surface from aerophobic to aerophilic state. The en riched nano-tunnels of the Cu nano array electrode can facilitate CO2 transportation and pin gaseous products on the electrode surface. The latter is believed to be the reason that boosts the Faradaic efficie ncy of liquid products by 67% and limits the H2 producti on to less than half of before. This in terface engin eeri ng strategy also lowered H2O (proton) affinity, therefore promoting CO and HCOOH production. Engineering the electrode contact interface controls the reaction kinetics and the selectivity of products, which should be inspiring for other electrochemical reactions. 展开更多

The weldability of the ZhS6U nickel-based superalloy,which is prone to solidification cracking during electron-beam welding(EBW)repair processes,was investigated.The effects of two different pre-weld heat-treatment cycles on the final microstructure before and after welding were examined.Welds were made on flat coupons using an EBW machine,and the two heat-treatment cycles were designed to reduceγ′liquation before welding.Microstructural features were also examined by optical and scanning electron microscopy.The results showed that the change in the morphology and size of theγ′precipitates in the pre-weld heat-treatment cycles changed the ability of the superalloy to release the tensile stresses caused by the matrix phase cooling after EBW.The high hardness in the welded coupons subjected to the first heat-treatment cycle resulted in greater resistance to stress release by the base alloy,and the concentration of stress in the base metal caused liquation cracks in the heat-affected zone and solidification cracks in the weld area. 展开更多

A bounce universe model with a scale-invariant and stable spectrum of primordial density perturbations was constructed using a consistent truncation of the D-brane dynamics from Type IIB string theory. A coupling was introduced between the tachyon field and the adjoint Higgs field on the D3-branes to lock the tachyon at the top of its potential hill and to model the bounce process,which is known as the Coupled Scalar and Tachyon Bounce(CSTB) Universe. The CSTB model has been shown to be ghost free,and it fulfils the null energy condition;in addition, it can also solve the Big Bang cosmic singularity problem. In this paper we conduct an extensive follow-up study of the parameter space of the CSTB model. In particular we are interested in the parameter values that can produce a single bounce to arrive at a radiation-dominated universe. We further establish that the CSTB universe is a viable alternative to inflation, as it can naturally produce a sufficient number of e-foldings in the locked inflation epoch and in the post-bounce expansion to overcome the four fundamental limitations of the Big Bang cosmology, which are flatness, horizon,homogeneity and singularity, resulting in a universe of the current size. 展开更多

The sugarcane bagasse fuel is an energetic deposit opportunity for thermal and electricity generation in sugar society.Combustion behaviors,essential for effective operation of these devices are a necessity.A 3D numerical model has been developed in the commercial software Ansys Fluent.According to the fuel density and particle variable,this model took into account both suspension and grate model combustion.The realizable k-ε turbulent model with the P-1 model shows its advantage of describing such king problems and has been applied on the numerical model.The contour of the temperature,spices and the particle trajectory provided a clear understanding of bagasse fuel combustion in the furnace as well,bagasse particle goes through from initial heating to char combustion and its conversion to ash.The results obtained were in accordance with those of the literature.These results could be used to analyze this inexpensive combustion process for looking for the effect of design parameter change on the furnace performance. 展开更多
