When T8,T10A,GCr15 steel etc. had been treated at 750～1050℃ for 0.5～8h in a fused borax bath containing such metals as V,Nb, Cr etc. or their oxide and proper reducer,carbide coatings such as VC,NbC,Cr_7C_3 etc. were formed respectively on the surfaces of those steels. As the bath contained Cr,V_2O_5 and B_4C,a composit carbide coating was formed. Through a series of studies and tests by means of microscope,Xray diffraction and electron probe microanalysis, the formative carbide coatings were proved to be smooth,dense,uniform,well bonded with substrate and have high microhardness and excellent resistance to wear,corrosion and oxidation.
